"My mom was going through the same thing! I kept asking what could be done. Finally, I was made aware that a nurse from the main office was at the facility. I took my problem to her (after 3 emergency room visits and 6 staples in mom’s head) and she immediately got a lap belt and a “low” bed with a pad along the side in case she fell. we also put an alarm on her at night. She has not had a signifigant fall since. She has had a few when the CNA"s try to give mom her “privacy” while in the restroom. I have had to push to get them not to leave her unattended, because she will fall every time. Hope this is helpful. It changed out lives. I don’t know if the rules are the same in every state, though they should be with medicare."

"NOT HAPPY ABOUT THE FACT THAT THE GOVERNMENT IS TAKING AWAY BENEFITS AND PAYMENTS FOR SENIOR HEALTH CARE – HEARING THAT THEY ARE TAKING AWAY 10.00 PER DAY PER PATIENT IN NURSING FACILILITIES WHICH IS ABOUT 1000.00 – CUTTING SENIOR BENEFITS AND MEDICARE BENEFITS IS NOT THE WAY TO GO – GOVERNMENT SHOULD CUT BENEFITS AWAY FROM THE PRISON POPULATION AS THOSE FOLKS ARE CRIMINALS WHO ARE DOING TIME AND HAVE COMMITTED CRIMES"

    Aging In Place

Many seniors and families choose to make modifications to the home environment so they can “age in place.” Talk about this option with others! is it more expensive than a home? less? is home care the solution for us. what do we need to do to start aging in place ?

"I agree with Sam. Thanks for sharing. Live in care, provides quality care who are trained. They take care of the senior’s health as well as wellness. There are also alternatives like hourly care to keep the cost down."

"Technology has improved to the point where GPS devices can be used to help track our loved one’s if they wander or get disoriented. These devices have geofences that will alert a caregiver or family member if a loved one has breached the geofence. The loved one can then be easily tracked and found. In addition, these devices now have SOS buttons to alert care givers or family members if they become disoriented. All this in a device the size of a 9-volt battery. Amazing technology!"

"It is fantastic that you are doing such a great job of caring for your mother that you would ask this question. The absolute best answer is perfect for you: Look at your Mom, is she as healthy as she can be? Any risk factors for being exposed to the virus? Take all this information to her next MD visit and present it. With the correct information you and Mom and her doctor can make the best decision."

"Find an attorney who specializes in elderlaw from NAELA (Nat’l Academy of Elderlaw Attorneys) to help determine if your mother’s rights were violated. You may also want to see if your community has a not-for-profit FAST (Financial Abuse Specialist Team). There are other steps that can be taken as well – too detailed to get into here."

"I have an assignment and that is to develop coping skills in dealing with the changes in mom’s eating. As children we were taught by our mother that part of the nurturing process is to feed our children, make sure they are full and satisfied. As caregiver of my mother that same need is in me, to feed my mom till she is full and satisfied, that is showing love, as she showed it to me. However, as she has come to the final stages in her life, food is no longer needed or wanted by her body. So, as of recently, I have had to cut way back on the nourishment I used to give her. This has affected me strongly both psychologicaly and emotionally. But I am going to work on my assignments and find and develop those coping skills to handle this change in mom."
