DO NOT TAKE YOUR LOVED ONE TO THIS PLACE!!! They are understaffed, especially on Friday nights. There is a complete lack of compassion for their patients (with the exception of a handful of people). Both of these issues lead to your loved one being neglected and treated at times sub-human!! Sitting in urine or feces for long periods of time because the resident can't express their needs themselves, everyone is busy doing something else, staff members didn't show up for work, or management is cutting corners by cutting down on staff numbers per shift. The facilities are not clean, residents are not clean, and not a soul is responsible for anything wrong. Pass the blame!! The doctors are inept!!! I believe they do not communicate with one another on meds prescribed or the interactions that were almost FATAL! Not one person took responsibility for almost killing my loved one, didn't even apologize for drugs they prescribed causing my loved one to be hospitalized for days and causing long term damage to my loved one's brain and heart. All because someone didn't check or know the drug interactions. Now, let's talk about the people in social services that are there to help you decide on a care plan for you or your family member. Don't count on them or their word. If they says they'll do it or they care, do not expect them to make it happen. One of them actually told me," be thankful for every day you have with your family member". This was in response to my asking for testing to find out if the disease had progressed or if something else might be happening. I have to say the location is convenient. Look somewhere else!!! I wish I had.

Response: I would like to talk to you as I experienced many of the same things with Big Springs Nursing Home. Do not want to give my email address here, but google, when you can "Safe Haven Senior Family Home" You can contact me there. I am not trying to sell anything. Just wanted to compare notes that are still disturbing to me.

Big Springs is sadly understaffed. My father received practically no assistance from anyone there. No one offered to bring clean linens, assist with bathing, or answer the call button. I would not recommend this facility to anyone.

What is senior living? Both words in this phrase are essential, but the key is “Living!” Simply put, senior living is for those age 55 and older who still want to get everything they can out of life—with excellent value, excellent care, and excellent times. It means an engaged, satisfied lifestyle based upon your wants and needs. For some it means independent living, a way to live as usual but without the hassles of home ownership or maintenance. For others it means assisted living, a type of retirement community that still emphasizes your freedom and independence, but always with a ready, friendly staff to assist as needed. For those requiring more intensive help with physical needs or with Alzheimer’s or dementia, senior living means nursing care and memory care. Senior living offers comprehensive continuing care, where retirees can “age in place,” moving from one form of care to another as needed. Finally, senior living also means in-home care, where trained staff help retirees in their current home.
