My father at the age of 101 passed away on Easter Day 2013. His last days were spent in comfort at Mi Casa and Hospice of the Valley. Vicki the "Director of Nursing" (at Mi Casa) was the angel we needed. When admitted (like with many I am assuming) she personally looked over my fathers records and assured me he would be treated according to hospital discharge plans and cared for my her well known and highly motivated nursing staff which included RN's and her caring and loving patient techs. She was correct. My father was treated with the kindest of care and never neglected. I worried so much because of his condition and his age. He could never quite get to the button to ask for help but there was no need. He was checked on before he needed to find the "I need attention" button.. I have gone through the rehab/convalescent facility routine before.. (my mother who predeceased him). I was not pleased with her Rehab Facility in Tucson. I was very apprehensive about putting him under that same level of care. I needn't have worried. Vicki and her staff get a superior rating from me. I highly recommend Mi Casa.. (and a word about the kitchen.. superb food) OH YES AND THE PHYSICAL THERAPISTS!!! BRAVO!!

Staff completely unfamiliar with patient's health issues including reason for being there, diet restrictions, and doctor orders coming from hospital even though patient had been at Mi Casa for 4 days and had repeatedly told staff she was being fed the wrong diet. Nurse did not want to call doctor until patient insisted. Only reason patient stayed was due to insurance restrictions.

Response: I agree. This was the worst facility I could imagine. My mother was sent there after hip replacement and response time after pushing the call button was absolutely terrible. We had to hire a private nurse to stay with her at night and we spent every day sitting there to make sure that she had the care she needed. I don't blame the RN's and the CNA's necessarily, the place is severely under staffed and they can't possibly respond to the call lights in a timely manner especially on weekeds. Communication between the CNA's and the RN's needs to be improved. We had a bad experience with Mi Casa and I would say if your loved ones need care, look elsewhere.

CNA's not trained in properly taking blood pressure readings, baths not done for weeks at a time, meds given not charted, food absolutely disguisting, staff not fully fluent in english. Dust all over the top of door frames, smell of poop constant in the hallways, proper infection control not followed, drinking glasses not washed at all....turning green on the bottom and still residents being given water in them, buzzer response time up to 1 hour.....wait time for meds..over 1 hour. Respectfulness...nil,

Tap water was given to the resident causing her stomach flu.
    The wrong medication was forced.
Staff members don't follow guidelines in checking ID bracelets.
Staff member negligently hit my mother in her knee that had surgery.
Staff lack response when they are called.
A stafff member yelled at my mother disrespectfully when my mother asking for her bed pan and was told racial comments making my mother had a panic and anxiety attach that until now is not able to see Staff person.
CNA's at least mostly are not fluent in English, mostly are from the Filipines and Liberia.
There is not a balance of professionals that Speaks Spanish
Check out the place before you put your loved one there! We sure didn't do our homework before.

My 83-year-old uncle just spent 10 days at Mi Casa, recovering from heart surgery. He raved about the quality of care and attention he received. He hated being forced to stay in a place like that, with the attendant noise, lack of privacy, and institutional food, but he said that for an institution it was the best it could be. The staff were caring and attentive, the food was very good for institutional food, and the physical plant was very well maintained.
