About Belmont Village Senior Living
Belmont Village, L.P. was founded in 1997 as a fully integrated developer, owner, and operator of senior housing. This privately held corporation, headquartered in Houston, Texas, markets its senior housing communities under the name Belmont Village Senior Living.
Belmont Village has developed a reputation as a senior housing industry leader, receiving high marks for innovative programs and support services, staffing, and resident satisfaction. The communities are known for attraction locations, distinctive architecture, and high safety standards. There are 24 Belmont Village communities in seven states: 10 in California, four each in Texas and Illinois, two each in Georgia and Tennessee, and one each in Arizona and Kentucky.
Belmont Village offers assisted living and memory care at all of its communities. Independent living is available at select communities for seniors who want the amenities and social opportunities available from Belmont Village but don't require additional support. Independent living residents can rest assured that, if their needs change, they will be able to make a seamless transition to assisted living without moving to a new community.
A Community "Built for Life"
Belmont Village is truly "a community built for life." As President/Co-Founder Patricia G. Will explains, communities are dedicated to helping older adults lead happy, self- directed lives in a supportive environment that offers good value and is also sensitive to the needs of senior living. Every detail in every community-from the neighborhood location to the décor choices-has been carefully chosen to make life more enjoyable for its residents. The communities have distinctive great rooms, lively bistros, comfortable parlors, landscaped terraces, and flexible meeting areas for social gatherings and activities.
Living options at Belmont Village communities include studio, one-bedroom and two- bedroom apartments in a variety of floor plans. Residents have full access to such amenities as an on-site fitness center, computer center, salon, and a restaurant with talented chefs who prepare delicious, nutritious meals.
Residences at Belmont Village communities have been carefully tailored to each of the living options. Those in assisted living residences have kitchenettes that include an under-counter refrigerator and microwave oven. Independent living residences have conventional stoves with ovens. Assisted living residences include a private bathroom with easy-access shower, whereas some of the independent living residences also have bathtubs. All bathrooms have a 24-hour nightlight and grab bars.
Additional features in private residences include individually controlled heating, ventilation, and air conditioning; attractive window blinds; ample closet and storage space; easy-use lever handles on doors and faucets; and placement of electric outlets and switches for easy access. All residences are barrier-free and have two emergency assistance call switches.
Included in the monthly rent are all meals and snacks, activities, regular assessments and monitoring, weekly housekeeping, scheduled transportation, utilities, and basic cable TV. Laundromats are located throughout the building and are provided free of charge for residents. An easy-to-understand schedule of supplemental support services is provided for additional care needs.
Assisted Living with a Twist(r)
The Belmont Village experience is Assisted Living with a Twist(r). The goal is to provide an ideal balance of opportunities and support allowing residents to live each day to the fullest. Programs are designed to let residents live self-directed, personally fulfilling lives that are carefully balanced with the support each resident needs. To fulfill that purpose, Belmont Village Senior Living offers innovative programs to maintain health and well- being in body, mind, and spirit.
At Belmont Village, residents and guests enjoy nutritious and delicious meals and snacks prepared daily by on-site chefs using only the freshest ingredients and served restaurant- style by a courteous, well-trained staff. Diners choose from more than two dozen daily menu items at Josephine's Kitchen(r), one of the nation's leading senior dining programs. Belmont Village accommodates residents with special diets.
Communities offer a variety of resident activities, created and directed by a nationally recognized gerontologist to ensure that they are healthful, fun, and purposeful. Programs are grounded in research and reflect the highest standards of recreational and therapeutic benefits with a special emphasis on maintaining mental fitness.
Fitness classes and activities are offered at the Center for Life Enhancement, under the direction of a licensed physical therapist and featuring equipment chosen especially for older adults. Among the classes available are Tai Chi, yoga, and chair exercise as well as supervised workouts. Water aerobic classes take place in communities with swimming pools, and on-site therapy services are also available.
At the Center for Learning, residents can use computers equipped with high-speed Internet and email access and featuring keyboards and monitors that are designed specifically for older hands and eyes. A trained staff is available to help residents with their computer skills.
A full-time activities director ensures that seniors always have something to do, with such options as art classes, computer classes, language learning classes, lectures, movie nights, as well as social gatherings that include high teas and weekly wine and cheese events. There's also a concierge to arrange complimentary transportation for shopping trips, doctor visits and scheduled socials outings that might include lunch, trips to museums or theatrical performances. (Please note: Activities and amenities may vary, based on the community.)
Memory Loss Programs
For people with Alzheimer's disease and other forms of memory loss, Belmont Village offers the Person-Centered Living(r) program. This research-based program is tailored to residents' needs and allows them to exercise their minds and memories every day. All of the exercises and activities are specially designed by the Belmont Village gerontologist to be adaptable to the abilities of each individual resident. Residents with memory impairment live in a separate, secured area within the community that is supported by staff members specially trained in dementia care. Neighborhood residents also have access to a dedicated, secured garden area to enjoy the outdoors.
For those residents with mild cognitive impairment (MCI), the Belmont Village offers its award-winning Circle of Friends(r) Memory Enrichment program. Grounded in research to enhance cognitive function, physical fitness and overall wellbeing, this dedicated MCI program also promotes confidence in social interactions and strengthens self-esteem.
Circle of Friends residents enjoy the full scope of life available at Belmont Village communities. They continue to live in their assisted living residences, have shared dining experiences with other residents in Josephine's Kitchen, and enjoy an enhanced calendar of mental and physical fitness exercises presented in a group setting within the context of a structured day.
Supported with ongoing evaluation by a nationally recognized gerontologist and a recreation therapist, the Circle of Friends program also provides residents with interactive and educational outings as well as entertainment opportunities. Activities are conducted by a dedicated activity assistant, supervised by a memory programs coordinator and supported by specialized training for the activity staff.
The program received Honorable Mention recognition from the 2011 George Mason University Health Care Quality Improvement Awards. This singular Honorable Mention Award-chosen from all project submissions and across all entry categories-was presented in recognition of Belmont Village's work in identifying and addressing issues of MCI among their residents as well as making a continuing effort to improve their quality of life.
Gray Matters: MBA at Belmont Village
Belmont's MBA Club is a research-based program designed to maintain brain health and long-term wellness in senior residents. MBA, short for Mind Body Awareness, uses a holistic approach that encompasses activities and lifestyle choices in four areas of daily activity: mental fitness, physical exercise, nutrition with designated "brain foods," and spiritual and creative thinking. This exclusive wellness program, which offers a fun, interactive way to meet mental and physical fitness goals, has been developed by a leading gerontologist and is supervised at each community by trained staff. A personal trainer will provide a complete mental fitness pre-assessment, establish individual goals, and to track progress on a personal worksheet.
Belmont Village is committed to high standards in safety, service, and care, which includes licensed nurses on-site 24/7 to administer medications, perform wellness checks, communicate with physicians, and attend to health concerns.
All staff members are employees of Belmont Village and undergo a careful selection and screening process. Each employee then receives a minimum of 40 hours of PAL training through an industry-leading program specially designed to foster empathy for aging while covering job skills, safety, hospitality, communications, and personal and business values.
Every resident is assigned a Personal Assistance Liaison, or PAL. PALs undergo specialized training to familiarize them with the signs and symptoms of diabetes, so that they can help monitor well-being. They report directly to the communities' nurses and are the primary caregivers for our residents, providing daily assistance with bathing, grooming, dressing, transferring, and more. Staff members who work with Alzheimer's residents receive additional, specialized training. Employees receive continuing education at the on-site Center for Learning.
Belmont Village also offers accommodations for respite care and hospice patients. The number of hospice apartments available at any given time depends on the community. In the event that no apartment is available, each Belmont Village community has a list of hospice facilities available in the surrounding area.
In addition, Belmont Village is proud to have been chosen by the NFL Alliance to be a designated provider of the NFL Player Care Plan. The plan includes provisions for assisted living and Alzheimer's care for retired NFL players and the elderly members of their immediate families.
Support for Research and "Green" Living
Belmont Village supports many national and local not-for-profit education and research organizations with gifts of financial and human resources as well as providing access to its communities for research and events. In addition, the company was designated an Energy Star Partner for its energy-saving building design.
