About Harbor Retirement Associates LLC
Dan Simmons and Tim Smick - through the culmination of decades of hard work and heartfelt interest in the senior living industry - started Harbor Retirement Associates LLC in 2002. They believed senior housing should be more than brick and mortar. They envisioned senior living standards that were set with purpose, built upon Christian values, and promoted the utmost respect for the seniors who entrust their care to HRA's 18 facilities in the nation.
Smick, now the president and CEO of HRA, carries forward the torch for innovation in the senior care industry. He began his career in healthcare administration, pinpointing his focus to senior care once he realized the enormous opportunity that existed for his vision to have a broader impact upon a burgeoning industry. Smick simply wanted to make a difference in the lives of others. He continues to make an impact, 35 years later, through his leadership at HRA by redefining how senior care is administered throughout the United States.
Harbor Retirement Associates Vision & Culture
The leadership and staff rely on their talents and knowledge to establish and advance HRA's communities, ensuring each facility meets the highest bar of achievement of care for its residents. It's important for HRA to create environments that staff would be excited and comfortable to place their own family members in.
HRA adheres to five core values, which help ensure the culture at each HRA-owned facility exists to serve a significant purpose. Those tenets, as described by HRA, include respect, attentiveness, integrity, stewardship, and excellence. Only when respect exists for one another can the unique identity of residents, their family members, and caregivers be honored in a dignified manner. A resident's needs are the first priority, and those needs determine the services provided. At every turn, residents are to receive exceptional care influenced by his or her particular social, emotional, and physical needs.
The lives of seniors are not only enhanced each day at HRA facilities, they are celebrated.
HRA Senior Living Choices & the Residents
The 18 facilities managed by HRA include assisted living facilities, known as HarborChase communities, and one independent living facility, Regency Park. HarborChase locations are found in Huntsville, Ala.; Coral Springs, Gainesville, Jacksonville, Naples, North Collier, Palm Harbor, Tallahassee, Tamarac, Venice, Vero Beach, and Villages Crossing, Fla.; Auburn Hills and Sterling Heights, Mich.; and Aiken, Columbia, and Rock Hill, S.C. Regency Park is located in Vero Beach, Fla.
Harbor Retirement communities are home for 2,404 residents. Ten percent of those adults are residents at Regency Park's independent living community, while 66 percent are residents of the HarborChase assisted living programs. The remaining 24 percent benefit from HarborChase memory care facilities.
Vero Beach, Fla., known for being a popular retirement destination in America, is the ideal location for the Regency Park independent living community. The HRA-managed residences have set a high standard of excellence for retirement living, represented through a resort-like atmosphere and lavish amenities.
There are currently nine apartment layouts to consider at Regency Park. They range from a one-bedroom, one-bathroom layout to an expansive and exquisite two-bedroom, two- bathroom floor plan that includes a den. Each apartment has a screened lanai, which overlooks gorgeous gardens or the Regency's lush nature preserve.
Regency Park also offers three villa floor plans, which feature a two-bedroom, two- bathroom floor plan, and two-bedroom, two-bathroom layout that also includes a den. Each space is designed to ensure that residents of Regency Park are able to live a carefree lifestyle - the confines of pre-retirement life a distant memory.
The enriching culture at Regency Park is supported by the many social, educational, wellness, and spiritual activities offered. There are also group exercise programs that range from strength training to water aerobics - or set up your own plan with the Regency's personal trainer to ensure you're in the best shape of your life.
If you are in need of extra help throughout the day, HRA's HarborChase communities are the perfect fit for seniors in need of additional care. Maintaining the same luxurious settings found at HRA's Regency Park, HarborChase Assisted Living programs go to great lengths to ensure there is optimal balance between caregiving and the interests and individuality of each resident. Residents are encouraged to engage and explore new interests and hobbies while surrounded by the comfort of the mementos of their lives. HarborChase caregivers don't want a resident to be satisfied just living life. They want to see a resident love life and make each day meaningful.
Multiple residence floor plans exist and vary according to location - up to seven layouts are offered in some communities. They include studios, one-bedroom apartments, and semi-private and premium suites. With the wide range of options, a resident is sure to find the perfect fit for their needs.
HarborChase's Life Enrichment Program enhances the experience for residents by offering more than 21 activities daily. A dedicated and adept staff is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week to provide help when necessary.
When a resident is ready to take a break from feeding their minds, they can nourish their bodies with a delicious breakfast, lunch, or dinner. The menu at HarborChase communities is changed often and not only is the food nutrient-rich, but it's delectable as well.
Family is always welcome to stop by for a visit with a loved one. There are also many opportunities for the families of residents to join in HarborChase activities like cookouts, trips, and other celebrations.
The leadership and staff of Harbor Retirement Associates communities understand how difficult it can be for families to make the decision to move a loved one to a specialized memory care facility, like those offered at HarborChase communities. That's why they've taken great care and consideration to ensure they honor the abilities and strengths of patients with dementia. Staff caregivers are integral to making sure residents live each day with intention while they explore new hobbies and activities.
Skilled nursing facilities at HarborChase deliver extraordinary care in a setting that provides the comforts a resident would find at home. If a resident's need is short-term or it is an extended stay, the staff caregivers offer quality care for all needs, 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Both private and semi-private rooms are available. In addition, physical, occupational, and speech therapy are offered, as is IV therapy, wound care, and respiratory therapy.
The stay for each resident begins with a comprehensive evaluation so HarborChase can best determine the course of treatment. The resident is then guided through their healing process by a team of nurses and therapists, a licensed clinical social worker, dietitian, and certified nursing assistants.
HRA's Regency Park upholds a high standard with its independent living spaces, and those apartments and villas are complemented by a large array of daily activities and the option of five restaurants. The dining choices will no doubt be able to satisfy each resident's palate, whether they're in search of a quick sandwich before golf or want a gourmet meal in a palatial setting.
Set on 40 acres of manicured ground, Regency Park's island-inspired architecture enriches the visual experience for residents. A pool and multiple courtyards invite Regency Park retirees to enjoy the company of friends and family. Other amazing conveniences include wellness, fitness, and business centers, a salon and spa, ballroom, library, and even a cinema. If you choose to leave the community to enjoy the offerings of Vero Beach for the day, luxury transportation is available to whisk you away to the beautiful beaches or cultural events that are such a large part of the area's identity.
Apartments and villas at Regency Park are cleaned once a week. This includes vacuuming and mopping of floors, cleaning bathrooms and kitchens, dusting, and washing and changing of linens. Less time inside doing household chores means every resident has more time to get out and enjoy life, making new memories daily.
HarborChase community amenities vary, dependent on location and level of care offered. A resident will enjoy the convenience of cleaning and laundry services while having expert care available around the clock. If a resident needs help getting dressed, with grooming, or with walking, a caring staff member will be right there with them every step of the way.
Other services available for residents of HarborChase's assisted living communities include medication management, therapy, support groups, dermatology, auditory clinics, psychology, podiatric care, and equipment repairs. The availability of these services varies, depending on the location, but are available either within the community or via arranged transportation if offered outside HarborChase.
Amenities at skilled nursing communities include private bedside phones, Wi-Fi, cable, and utilities. A resident is also offered complimentary transportation from the hospital to the community for their short-term or long-term stay.
Embracing the Next Era of Senior Care
When the next HarborChase community opens in late 2013, it will stand as a testament to HRA's devotion to improving senior living and forging ahead to the next era. As the population changes, the needs of retirees and seniors evolve. HarborChase of Villages Crossing in Lady Lake, Fla., will aim to provide the highest standard of assisted living and memory care for the newest generation of seniors.
The Villages Crossing location will be completed on 91,000 square feet and offer 96 units. The floor plans are not only expansive, but also located in a safe community environment. In addition to the programming HarborChase communities are known for, a technology and business center will help keep seniors connected to friends, family, and their interests.
