About the Justus Companies
For over 100 years, the Justus Companies have been synonymous with creating high-quality neighborhoods and communities in the state of Indiana. This family-owned company, now in its fourth generation, began in 1910 when Guy Justus started a new home-building business known as the Justus Contracting Company. The company was a great success and grew in leaps and bounds over the next decades. A large part of Guy's legacy to the greater Indianapolis area includes introducing lawn care and snow removal services to create the first low-maintenance communities to the east side of Indianapolis.
Following in his father's footsteps, Walter E. Justus built upon the success of low-maintenance residential communities. In 1962, Walter began constructing Crestwood Village East, a retirement community. "The Crestwood Concept" was built upon his family's mission, which was "to plan, develop, construct, and manage the highest quality housing communities while providing an affordable lifestyle for our valued customers." Crestwood Village East proved wildly successful with Indianapolis seniors who were looking to enjoy their retirement years without the burden of home maintenance. As a result, the Justus family expanded Crestwood Village to include three additional senior living communities, all with the slogan, "Where Life Begins at 55."
The original Justus Contracting Company has grown to become The Justus Companies, a real estate company that includes retail, commercial, and hotel properties, in addition to its successful, award-winning independent living and assisted living communities for seniors. Walt Justus is the fourth generation to lead his family's company, which now has more than 20,000 homes and communities in its property portfolio.
Crestwood Village is the recipient of more than 15 Indiana Apartment Association Prodigy Awards, winning in categories that include Best Studio or Efficiency Floor Plan, Best Resident Retention, and Best Community Service Program. These awards equate to a truly exceptional senior living experience for residents of these Indianapolis independent living and assisted living communities.
A Welcoming Community
Crestwood Village has four communities throughout Indianapolis: Crestwood North, Crestwood South, Crestwood East, and Crestwood West. (A fifth community, Wyndham Hall, offers affordable apartments to those seniors who qualify.) All four Crestwood Village communities are home to an active senior population, where friendships grow and thrive.
The Crestwood Connector allows residents of Crestwood Village to stay informed and engaged in the activities and programs that are happening in their respective communities. Located in the common areas of all Crestwood Village communities, The Crestwood Connector is an electronic message board that notifies residents of daily schedules, as well as reinforces the concepts that they learn and live through healthcrestSM, a holistic wellness program that is unique to Crestwood Village.
As a token of appreciation for their service to our country, Crestwood Village waives both the application fee and the reservation fee for all men and women who demonstrate veteran status. For those residents with specific veteran status, there may be additional VA Aid and Attendance Benefits. Additionally, the surviving spouses of veterans can apply for and are often eligible for these same benefits.
Residential Options and Amenities
The original low-maintenance vision of living that Guy Justus helped pioneer in Indianapolis is alive and well at each of the four Crestwood Village communities. Seniors are drawn to the convenience of not having to pay any buy-in or endowment fees, which are common to other senior living communities. At Crestwood village, the monthly payment covers maintenance (including the award-winning, 24-hour emergency maintenance), the healthcrestSM wellness program, transportation, and, utilities (at select campuses).
At Crestwood Village, there are options for independent living, assisted living, and senior living. Active and healthy seniors can opt for independent living-style apartments, while those who need assistance in completing daily tasks can move into apartments that feature senior-friendly layouts. For those who need a particular kind of TLC, Freedom Home Health works with Crestwood Village to provide flexible and specialized home-based senior care. Should residents need to begin or alter their assisted-living programs, the staff at Crestwood Village is happy to help mold living arrangements to ideally suit their needs.
On-site amenities at Crestwood Village communities include a full-service beauty and barber salon, professional lawn maintenance and landscaping, and planned social activities and events. Other convenient features found at Crestwood Village include an on-site service coordinator, controlled-access buildings, elevators, indoor trash rooms, indoor mailboxes, resident laundry rooms, business centers (with computers and a printer), a community gathering room, a sunroom, and a library.
Crestwood Villages' award-winning residences feature spacious floor plans in a variety of configurations. Residents can choose from studios, one-bedroom, and two-bedroom apartments; some are outfitted for independent living, while others are ideal for residents who need some assistance in daily living. The apartments, many of which have been upgraded or remodeled, feature large rooms, fully equipped step-saver kitchens (including a dishwasher), individualized climate control, and large patios or balconies. Bathrooms feature walk-in showers or full-size tub/showers.
Opportunities for Staying Active
At Crestwood Village, the unique healthcrestSM Wellness Program keeps seniors active and on the go. Why does Crestwood Village focus so much on keeping its residents active? Because residents who remain active longer also remain healthy longer. Assisted living residents meet with Crestwood's professional staff to create an individualized, holistic plan for keeping active and staying healthy, based on individual strengths, weaknesses, goals, and interests. Overall, the healthcrestSM program is one of the driving forces that make life so pleasant for residents at Crestwood Village.
The healthcrestSM program is exclusive to the Crestwood Village community. It focuses on principles from eight dimensions of wellness: physical, nutritional, intellectual, emotional, social, spiritual, environmental, and community. By staying engaged and involved in everyday life, residents of Crestwood lead happier, more fulfilled lives - even if that means relishing the simple things in life, like literally taking time to stop and smell the roses.
Physical: It may be called retirement, but there is nothing retiring about life at Crestwood Village. Certified fitness coordinators assess residents through health screenings and create personalized workout plans to keep them fit and healthy. The state-of-the-art wellness centers at each of the four communities of Crestwood Village keep residents on track. There are many ways that residents can stay active; some include walking clubs, chair exercise, line dancing, ballroom dancing, personal training, tai chi, and yoga.
Social: Life can be one big, continuous party at Crestwood Village, if that's what you'd prefer your retirement years to be like. Some ways that residents keep up with their friends and make new friends include dinner dances, ice cream socials, birthday parties, and special-interest clubs, like the Red Hats.
Emotional: Happy, well-adjusted people tend to lead healthier, more fulfilling lives. However, the transition to retirement life may not go as smoothly for some people as others. That's why Crestwood Villages focuses on providing emotional support to residents via Change Champs, relaxation techniques, stress management, and grief support and counseling.
Intellectual: School days might be long over, but that doesn't mean that the learning should stop. At Crestwood Village, residents can take advantage of myriad opportunities to learn and grow, including computer and technology classes, book clubs, writing courses, and photography classes.
Environmental: Yes, people are drawn to Crestwood Village because of low-maintenance living, but that doesn't mean that gardeners have to hide their green thumbs! A community garden keeps nature lovers actively involved in beautifying the campus.
Nutritional: Those who wish to indulge their culinary passions can do so through cooking classes onsite, or with Purdue Extension courses.
Spiritual: Crestwood Village maintains a vibrant spiritual community by way of regular church services, as well as rosary and Bible study groups.
Community: Crestwood Village is a strong community of its own, but it also maintains ties to the greater Indianapolis community through local groups like Best Friends and Toastmasters.
