About The Arbor Company
In 1986, M.E. Costello and Ellison Thomas founded The Arbor Company in an effort to serve the growing needs for senior living facilities. Based in Atlanta, Georgia, the company now spans seven states and operates 21 senior living facilities, providing a wide range of care.
The Arbor Company is committed to developing an outstanding and tenured staff, and to maintaining a progressive clinical and competitive edge that meets the needs of both residents and their families. The company's stated purpose is to engage and enrich the health and spirit of its residents, and to that end, its staff works to honor individuality and to celebrate each person's unique life by making strong connections with residents and their families. Their goals are to create delightful surprises and meaningful moments within a safe and caring community. The company's mission is summed up in its slogan: "We listen. We respond. We care."
Senior Living Options
For seniors and their families who are looking for a caring community, The Arbor Company offers several levels of care to meet each person's individual needs. In each of the seven states in which The Arbor Company operates, it offers independent living, assisted living, and memory care communities.
Whatever level of care you choose, The Arbor Company strives to offer the exact level of service needed to help residents maintain independence as much as possible. Highly trained staff members work to provide high quality care and exemplary customer service to each resident.
A perfect example of The Arbor Company's commitment to individual service is its highly specialized memory care program. These programs are supported by a nationally recognized Alzheimer's expert and they provide exceptional care within a structured environment, ensuring enhanced safety for residents who have Alzheimer's disease and other memory disorders.
The Arbor Company sets itself apart from many other senior living management companies by working with Teepa Snow, a dedicated dementia expert consultant. Snow works extensively with The Arbor Company's memory care programs to help staff members deliver care that is as compassionate and clinically advanced as possible. By working with Snow, The Arbor Company is aggressively working toward creating state-of-the-art dementia care programs in each of its 21 communities.
Each Arbor community contains an Evergreen Program, a secured neighborhood that specializes in caring for residents with Alzheimer's disease and other memory impairments. Each Evergreen program has a dedicated, full-time program director who is tasked with providing individualized programs for each resident's unique needs. In addition, every community staff member is specially trained as a Dementia Care Specialist to ensure that each person working in the program understands the progression of memory disorders.
On-Site Education and Entertainment
At The Arbor Company, providing exceptional service and care for residents includes not only offering the quality of care they need, but also helping residents to create the lifestyle and the quality of life that they want. Independence and self-preservation is a vital part of creating a high quality of life, and to help residents achieve those ideals, The Arbor Company provides extended support in the development of vibrant activity programs that serve residents' needs at various care levels, abilities, and interests.
In addition to the traditional game nights, movie matinees, shopping outings, card games and exercise classes, The Arbor Company communities are committed to designing creative and unique activity programs. For instance, the company's Cyber Seniors program offers computers and Internet access in facilities' multi-purpose rooms, encouraging seniors to stay connected to the rest of the world, communicate via email, and surf the Internet.
Arbor communities also offer Dakim Brain Fitness, a clinically tested brain fitness software program. Studies show that regular, comprehensive brain exercise can drastically reduce the risk of cognitive decline, and Dakim Brain Fitness is designed to provide an interactive, comprehensive brain workout in just 20 minutes per day.
In addition to exercising the mind, seniors must also exercise their bodies in order to stay healthy. That's why The Arbor Company incorporates unique, fun physical fitness programs such as Fit for Life and Wii Fit. Through friendly competition, Arbor community residents keep their bodies in healthy shape.
In addition to keeping active seniors engaged and entertained, The Arbor Company is also dedicated to continually improving the quality of life for residents who are no longer active or are living with dementia or other memory disorders. For instance, The Arbor Company is taking advantage of cutting-edge research that shows strong connections between music and memory. The company uses donated iPods and other personal listening devices to allow each resident to listen to his or her favorite music from earlier days. In some cases, the results, recorded in a YouTube video, have been amazing; lethargic, nonverbal residents have become animated and downright chatty after connecting with the music of their youth.
Senior Living Locations
The Arbor Company operates senior living facilities in Florida, Georgia, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee, and Texas. At each of the company's 21 locations, the company offers a combination of comprehensive staff training programs and advanced management tools, which work together to ensure successful results. Thanks to longtime industry experience and ongoing innovation, Arbor Company-managed communities are leading performers in each of the markets where they are located.
