My father has been a resident at La Vida for 10 1/2 years. When he and my mom were first there the care was awful, but since the change in director, it is much better. Mom had to be in memory care and they were pretty good, but when she was on hospice the whole staff was fantastic. Dad has done well there and the staff are wonderful. The primary problem is the constant increase in price, to the point that unfortunately, we may have to find another facility for him. He is 92 and it is going to be hard for him to move. They did spend more time on how the place looks than on it's care, but don't so much anymore.

My grandma lives her and it saddens me to read some of these reviews. The staff are so nice. Food is great. Caregivers are so helpful. We are happy with everything. Nurses are great too. My grandma has lived here for 4 months and we have nothing but good to say about it!

My dad is there and I think its great. i don't have any complaints. Before we chose La Veda Real, I walked around the facility and spoke to 6-7 residents, and got nothing but good reports
I think the other 2 bad reviews are from disgruntled employees

I worked at La Vida Real for three years. The quality of resident care is preformed by caregivers that have little to no training. The staff is unprofessional, and certain members of upper management admittedly "doesn't know what I am doing" on a daily basis. The facility is appearance oriented- which shouldn't be the basis for promotions or for placement of a loved one. The food and adminities are wonderful. If your loved one is on Independent living, they will most likely be happy due to the fact that they won't have to rely on care by the staff.

Chronically understaffed. Poor security - anyone walks in and out anytime. Staff stole from my mother's purse, refrigerator, shoes and music cds. Serious language barriers with untrained caregivers with bad attitudes. Promises of improvement never materialized. Admin staff is usually unavailable as they cover many facilities. Looks great on the surface with a smooth sales pitch but don't get sucked into to the empty promises!!! I'm so glad Mom has moved out! October 2010

I had a relative live here and their so-called trained staff did not dispense medications correctly or keep adequate log notes for their residents. Personal items were missing, never to be found. Be sure to interview residents for inside information that the facility will never reveal. Don’t be fooled or rely on support from CDSS; be informed before you place your loved one at this facility!

Description of La Vida Real in El Cajon, CA

    Built In 2003 , Number of Beds : 177

Seniors in Rancho San Diego, CA, will find La Vida Real to be just the right fit for their needs. Assisted living offers help on an as-needed basis, with the goal of providing the support that helps seniors stay as self-sufficient as possible. There are many reasons for living in an assisted living community. Research suggests that seniors who live near their peers and have a variety of social activities feel a greater sense of well-being. Assisted living provides senior-friendly housing and a caring staff. Other services you'll find include around-the-clock supervision and security, access to professional nurses, emergency call systems, help with daily living, and nutritious meals prepared by chefs. These communities typically provide linen service, housekeeping, transportation, and a calendar of social events. For seniors who can care for themselves but who want to enjoy a low-maintenance life independent living is the ideal choice. Tailored for both individuals and couples, these senior communities are also known as retirement villages, 55+ communities, and senior apartments. Residents stay in private apartments or individual homes with a variety of community amenities, services, and programs tailored just for seniors. You’ll enjoy your own space, so you can bring your favorite belongings, such as furniture and personal items. With independent living, residents won't have to worry about maintenance, mowing, or other chores associated with home ownership. Because independent living communities are intended for older adults who need little or no assistance, most do not offer medical care or supervision. You’ll find many social programs and community amenities, such as gardening, bridge, bingo, fitness programs, book clubs, and planned outings. Memory care offers the highest level of support, consistent memory enrichment programs, and increased security for your loved one. Memory care is different from the care provided in assisted living, requiring a staff that is trained in memory care. Residents live in private or semi-private studio homes with twenty-four-hour supervision. Three nutritious meals a day plus snacks are provided, as well as housekeeping and laundry services. Structured activities designed specifically for memory impairment bring intellectual stimulation. Communities typically have secured areas, such as walking paths and gardens, for residents to access. Other important services include behavioral therapies, continence care, medication management, and assistance with bathing and grooming. Settle into La Vida Real, where you'll enjoy a comfortable new beginning. There are assisted living, independent living and memory care services available at this location.
