I work for the Benson house number 9 10 11 12 located in the palm springs area. The administrator and house managers are very unprofessional and lazy. The administrator is very unprofessional she had this meeting and blamed the staff for the house manager she hired who brought a gun inside the clients home and even showed it to him even drove around with the gun inside her purse and with the client in the van She has this house mmanager she brags about how they know how to get around the state audit they know how to say the right thing. They hire drug dealers .this is the worse company to work for the staff is always in a bad mood with the clients because they are hung over from drinking all night and come into work that way. So many people have quit because they won't give them a vacation. Don't work here its not worth it they get so much from funding from the state the staff never gets a raise

Response: I am the parent of a staff member and have heard all the same things and even seen it!

Staff takes residents where they need or want to go. Tends to all medical and heath needs. The homes are cleaned up to three times a day and no less then twice a day. They are given gift cards and money on birthdays and Christmas, which is not something other homes do or something that has to be done. They all have birthday celebration, which is also not something all homes do. They have everything they needs and pretty much anything they could possibly want. They get to go an trips to amusement parks, fishing, bike rides, camping, and so much more. Not only have I worked as a staff at Benson House, but I have worked at a day program and have seen how this population is cared for. Benson House residents are very well taken care of and want for nothing. The owner of Benson House genuinely cares and advocates for all of his residents. The managers and staff genuinely care and advocate for the residents. Having seen Benson House from the outside, working at a day program, and from the inside as a staff I can honestly say they provide superior care. I have recently recommended for a past client to request to be moved to a Benson House home because I know he will love they way Benson House takes care of the residents.

My nephew lives in a benson house and he is extremely happy and well taken care of. the facility is clean and staff are very helpful. This is not a senior living home it is adult residential for developmentally disabled adults.

Response: Depending on where you are getting your information from in regards to this facility would verify the validations of your claims. This home is for adults with the highest level behavior rating and is not a job a person would take just for the paycheck. When a resident has a behavior there is always a very high potential for severe harm to the staff and peer of the individual having the behavior and it is the staffs job to ensure everyone's safety. The staff cares for these individuals with their everyday living needs and genuinely cares for the residents they work with. The owner of this facility cares for the residents as if they were his own children. The residents can call the owner or house manager at anytime of the day or night if they choose to. I have worked with one of the residents of this home when he was in junior high, his care and living situation has improved 100% since moving to this home. I have experience with individuals living in Benson House homes and other group home and the care the residents receive at Benson House homes is clearly superior to any that I have ever seen. Another of my clients I have worked with lives in another lower level Benson Home, and he as well is very well cared for. I have personally worked with four individuals, each who live in different Benson House homes, each of them love living there. These gentleman are all spoiled with trips to Disneyland and Knott's Berry Farm. They have game rooms with a pool table. The gentlemen I have worked with each have a private room, an area to play basketball or volleyball, they go deep sea fishing, to the movies, and if they want to do something or go somewhere the staff takes them. I would feel very confident in placing my adult child in a Benson Home.

Would not recommend this organization for your loved one. terrible staff that do not treat the residents with dignity & respect. management is unorganized, & dont seem to know anything about their residents only there for a pay check.

Response: Having an understanding of behaviors is important before making statements of those who work in the field. Many times with individuals who have severe verbally or physically aggressive behaviors it is often because they are not getting what they want when they want, when they want it, they express themselves inappropriately, or they rush to a conclusion. When the individual is dual diagnosis there may be issues of paranoia or hallucination. Some have families who are extremely supportive which is always helpful in assisting the residents with maintaining behaviors, but others have family that to not interact with them leaving them to feel abandoned or those who have an unhealthy and volatile family dynamic. Usually the families with and unhealthy dynamic become resentful of the group home staff because the residents behavior improves. Much like children of devoured parents, these individuals will manipulate family members or staff to get what they what or to play one against the other to refrain from taking responsibility for their actions. It is vitally important to access motives behind any statements or allegations made, recognize your own motives, and take a step back and look at the big picture before making judgement. These residents are perfectly flawed just like we are, should be treated as adults, but require guidance to make healthy life choices. They also require special care, patients, and understanding when it comes to behavioral outbursts. These outbursts can not be taken personally and each is an opportunity for a teaching/learning moment. Judgment and negativity to not work when dealing with this population.
