Today we had a reminder of how poorly Amity Home Health cared for my father in his time of need. Today, my mother received a letter from Amity called an Advanced Beneficiary Notice which explained that they would no longer be caring for my father and they wanted my mother to sign the letter and send it back to them, This letter arrived 1 year and 3 months after my father died. When my mother called Amity and attempted to explained how upsetting it was to receive a letter from them and this letter arrived 1 year and 3 months after my father died (Note, Amity had the death on record.) Joys response was I know how you feel. Well, she does not know how my mother feels. Only if Joy lost her husband of 47 years to a horrible illness and some how Joy managed to make it through the first year of the loss only to receive a reminder of how ill her husband was and to have all the memories of the last horrible, heartbreaking months rushing back into her head, and only if Joy gets hold of the company that sent the letter (Amity Home Health) and the first thing out of the ill informed person was I know how you feel. Then, Joy, you may actually know how she feels. Joy spoke so casually as if my mother was upset at a scratch in the pain on her car. Its really very simple. Any care providing company needs to take care not to send letters to the widow an entire year and 3 months after the death asking them to sign and return the letter. It's just not done. And more importantly, never tell a widow you know how she feels. Heartless and headless. A good description of their services. I understand mistakes happen but, quite frankly, mistakes like this should not happen, ever. People need to stop and think about the industry in which they work and who they deal with on a daily basis. Do you want these people caring for your family member? Wait! Before you answer, you may also want to consider the most important aspect of their services. The care of the sick individual and knowledge and reliability of the people with whom you'll likely interact. Amity was less than adequate. We were about to replace them when my father went into Hospice care. It seemed like my mother and I had more work trying to pick up after Amity's messes. If my father hadnt passed away just then and If I hadnt been trying so hard to take care of my mother, Id have certainly filed complaints against them with any government agency which over sees their industry. If you love your family member and if you want peace of mind, dont hire Amity! As I neared completion of this review I received a message left by Joy on my voice mail asking me to make sure my mother signs the letter and returns it. Joy, you should have done your job a year ago. After the pain you caused and after ???knowing how my mother feels??? she had the nerve to ask me to see to it that my mom signs the form. Heartless and headless. A new descriptive phrase I just created especially for Amity Home Health of Northridge California and especially for Joy.
