I forgot to mention that none of their social workers are licensed and don't have the skills for dealing with death and dying. Staff is lacking in training and understanding of elderly issues such as dementia and depression.

They don't deserve the Medicare 5-star rating. Friendly and nice to get you in then they ignore you and become unresponsive (phone messages, emails, faxes, written messages, and face-to-face), or extremely slow to respond. Unprofessional, uncollaborative, rude, & will outright lie and violate your rights. They yell at people, blame the resident first then the family second. The owner and administrator are hands off and will actually tell you, "I don't want to hear it" regarding your issue. The owner is on 8 months probation for Medi-Cal fraud. They hire San Francisco attorneys and settle court cases before going to trial. Check the court records. High number of complaints filed each year with state licensing. On paper they say the administrator and the DON run the place but reality is that all issues go through a terrible social services worker named Phonechia and manager named Keith, whose CNA license was denied by state licensing. These two are the front line with major CYA attitude. All the social services workers have a CYA attitude. You will have to fight and argue for basic stuff. Check court records, state licensing, go to meetings, and talk to several visitors who have known the place for at least a year.

YOU SHOULD BE ASHAMED OF YOURSELF!!!! Have you spent any time visiting & interacting with residents in a nursing home? Have you ever stopped to play a game of Bingo or spend an hour or two volunteering? Calling people out by name is NOT the way to resolve any type of an issue.
Actually, it looks like a great beginning for a defamation lawsuit.
Google is your friend, my friend ... if your honest intent is to find the owner of the facility you would have used the tools at your disposal.

Reading some of your other reviews it appears your friend wanted to rescind her POA, which is her right. Residents/patients can also REFUSE visits by people they name.

Response: If 'Our Parents' were truly doing the RIGHT thing, the above comments would have disappeared a loooooong time ago.

I'll be calling the lovely 'Our Parents' group tomorrow.

SHAME on 'Our Parents' for not vetting posts or responses, allowing slander and defamation of character.

Obviously, 'Our Parents' are only in this hack game to make $$ off of internet referrals and don't REALLY care about the human lives they destroy in the process.

'Our Parents' needs to vet posts & responses in order to prevent slander and defamation of character. Another reason to vet is to make your site look more professional.

Is 'Our Parents' main desire merely to make some $$ off internet referrals; yet show no compassion and/or don't care about the REAL human lives they disparage and destroy in the process.

[Edited for brevity]the room my cousin was given for hospice was three people in a room and when i arrived after she was placed there by uc davis with her clothes there was a hospice nurse 'like an ambulance chaser' beside her bed while i was putting up her clothes
when i went to hang them up the rod to hang clothes on fell down
the hospice nurse tried to disguss her medical conditions and hospice with no privacy at all
i told her i was not going to disguss this with her there were privacy laws such as county state and federal
and a crowd of elderly had gathered outside the room also there were other patients in bed
[A crowd of elderly would not be allowed]
the manager keith said [I] was right & i went with keith to the lobby
he presented a contract and wanted me to sighn it against my judgement
i sighened useing MY power of attorney
he did not explain the arbitration clause or the grievance process either
keith had me only complete five pages of the contract said that was it and "would not let me review the rest" [Caretakers/relatives, etc get copies of what they sign]

the next day i was called by the social worker carolynn stateing that i was present when my cousin sighned the contract with her herself and [even though] no inspite the hospice nurse insisting i was with keith in the lobby[.]
carolynn then tried to question MY poa
i told her that was not open for discusion either & i did not see what it had to do with hospice either [Not open for discussion?]
i hung up & was called by the nurse for asbury park and asked for consent to give my cousin phscotropic drugs
i declined, in fact i declined to ok any drugs [Something fishy here]
i said i did not believe that she had capacity and i know she did not have it . [If she had Dr orders she had the 'capacity' ]

the very next day i was called by asbury park social worker acum & again "attacking" MY poa. i could not understand her english [Racist? Notice it's MY poa? It's not his poa, it's his cousins poa.]
i spoke with dan the administrator who wanted to know where she banked and if she could get some funds
i told him yes how much did she need
i said the only thing there was a coke machine and a candy machine i,m thinking twenty dollars in quarters,
no the next statement out of dans mouth , she, well she would like to get me off her account and dan wanted to know who was in control of her funds [her fiduciary poa] for a speacial needs trust

they [staff] just wanted me to give up my [MY!] poa so they could get control and try to conserve my cousin and make her a resident so they could milk her trust and get her social security check and fraud medicare and medical [The Resident stated she wanted him off her accounts. It is the Nursing Home's responsibility to care for the resident in ALL manner of things]

i have resended the contract with them and then the next day requested a grievance form [It's impossible to rescind a contract after your cousin has rescinded her POA]
But wait!!! You claim keith 'did not explain the arbitration clause or the grievance process', how did you know to ask?
i was given one [grievance form] with no name ogf the facility, address, california license number, or phone number. [Grievance forms are printed with the appropriate info. If not, ASK!]

[I] was told i could not see her [my cousin] contact her, call her, and no one could according to hospice or aps.

i called the onbudsman and aps and contacted a attorney and to no avail [You have no case or rights here]

i have not seen nor talked with my cousin since the evening i sighned her in

this is one f,d up place
do not bring your loved one here !!!!!!!!!!!!!!
according to the public health department this place has numerous complaints and grievances [Did you look them up?]
and the onbudsman is being paid off [bribed, priceless!]
along with social services [more bribing!]

do not sighn a contract with this place
nor there sister company advanced hospice inc. [slander]

Asbury Park Nursing & Rehab is an average sized, for profit, nursing home with 139 beds based in Sacramento, CA. At last check, the facility had 100 residents indicating that it is 72% occupied which is less than average within the state of California. The provider accepts both medicare and medicaid programs, and provides resident and family counseling services.
This nursing home is not located in a hospital or a continuing care retirement community (CCRC). As of November 2012, the medicare rating for Asbury Park Nursing & Rehab, was 5 stars. Only 18% of nursing homes have 5 stars in California. Important to note that this facility has recently improved and has gone from 4 stars to 5 stars.
We have compared the detailed Medicare data for Asbury Park Nursing & Rehab with other senior care providers in California. When compare to the state averages for staffing, the number of registered nurse (RN) hours per resident per day is higher than average; Certified nursing assistant (CNA) hours per resident per day is about average; The number of licensed practical (LPN) or vocational nurse hours per resident per day is about average. My Father had only been at Asbury Park for a very short time. He was very well taken care of from the minute he arrived. Not to mention, that the staff took care of me and my family while we there visiting him. Not just be being extremely pleasant and kind but also making sure we didn't go without anything. Their staff fed us lunch even after the scheduled lunch time, brought it to us and when we tried to clean up after ourselves the staff was right there to take care of it for us. The early morning of his passing the nursing staff assisted us with choosing a cremation facility while my family and I were not in the least bit prepared for this, the staff offered to assist us by making the arrangements with the facility of our choice. We are so impressed with the entire staff at Asbury they assisted us out of kindness and with respect during such a stressful time.

My mother is there currently and we have turned the facility in for several items that we simply want them to address, instead they are becoming hostile. Here is a copy of the letter I sent the State Board of Nursing Home Adminstrators and the Adminstrator himself. He did not even let me detail the complaints before he hung on me. This place is completely out of control:

Dear Jim Jordan,

One would think that a license administrator in the healthcare industry would have practice is dealing with an unhappy patient or that patients family. I have dealt with licensed healthcare administrators as a professional and have never met an administrator who responded to an unhappy family member in the way you did. Number one, your own admission packets and state licensing require that Ombudsman and State Healthcare numbers for complains are required to be made available and posted. Your claiming that I have no rights to turn your facility in is directly against the law. Next instead of hearing out my complaints you flippantly told me that if my mother was not happy she could just leave. That is the worst customer service and is abusive on a interpersonal level. Finally, you simply hung up on me and refused to take my calls. I question your ability to be an effective nursing home administrator. One would think that an administrator would be used to dealing with unhappy family members. I worked as a professional with a Masters Degree for almost a decade at three different facilities and I never once witnessed my administrators treat a family member with such hostility. How can I possibly trust that you are treating my mother well. Plus when I called to get the owners name of the facility and who I could report your poor behavior too, I was given fake numbers to a donut shop and fake numbers for the Ombudsman. I will be turning you in to the State Board of Nursing Home Administrators. You did not even give me an opportunity to explain why I was unhappy, you need to re-evaluate your career choice, clearly you do not have the skills to be an administrator.
