This is the worst place. We have mom in hospice here and it has been horrible. We arrived yesterday to a nurse with an attitude, an unbathed mother, and they couldn't find her record book to tell us when she was last bathed. It always smells. With a couple of exceptions there is not compassion for her or her family. There was recently an incident of her being treated roughly by a CNA and after the investigation they said it wasn't abuse, just inexperience of the CNA. We have frequently complained about her call button being on the floor and her water out of reach. She has had stolen items, but, not recently. Our hospice lady suggested that we bring goodies to bribe the CNA's and nurses to better care. Do you think we should have to bribe people to do their job? We would not have kept her there had we had the power of attorney instead of the older brother who chose to leave her there. Very sad. We have done all we could do to stay on top of this and even though we have been nice they all just hate us now and do not want to bother with us. Do not put your loved one there.

This Nursing home always smells. We are there two or more times a week to visit my mother-in-law who is bed bound. She often does not have her call button where she can reach it. She often does not have water or a cup for water. She sometimes smells like she has not been cleaned appropriately. You cannot get any answers from staff about the care of your loved one. When you call the person answering has such a strong accent you cannot understand them. She often has things missing, even things with little value. The floor is always dirty and the curtains between patients are never cleaned. We have one nurse we like, otherwise, most of the rest are not helpful or user friendly. I so wish she could be somewhere else.

Response: I forgot to add I think their records are not too accurate and are written to benefit themselves.

Response: My sister was in the Astoria Rehab Center twice after her surgeries. Although she seemed to think most of the nurses were nice, and food not too bad, she did have jewelry stolen while there. My issues are with the referrals BY Astoria to Home Healthcare Agencies like Guardian Angels and Triple G Caregivers. These agencies hire In-Home 'caregivers' who have NOT had thorough background checks and are not registered CNAs with proper certification. My elderly, handicapped and trusting sister was financially defrauded of $17,000 in 4 months by checks written to the caregiver herself, even though she received wages from Guardian Angle/Triple G to which she paid $5,000/ mo. The deception, lies, and greed of these immigrant workers has no limits. Had my sister not suddenly died, I imagine all of her life savings would have been stolen.

I visited there today and found it clean and homey. I asked an unsuspecting resident how they liked the place and their response was initially and jokingly "where else can I go?" Then they responded "it's actually not bad at all". When asked if they had one complaint, the response was "the food". I asked anything in particular and the response was "breakfast". We laughed and they clarified with "scrambled eggs, scrambled eggs, etc....I said I bet you would like some pancakes eh? and the response was "yeah, and I got them today..". I spoke with a higher up and took a tour. The garden area for the patients to me seemed wonderful. Lots green area and a separate area for smokers....and they say they are putting in a garden for those who would like this year......Can't say anything regarding care other than what a resident stated as I mentioned.
