May is Mental Health Awareness Month (#MentalHealthMonth), so this week’s #ElderCareChat was devoted to a discussion of common mental health concerns faced by seniors and caregivers. OurParents blogger Diane Franklin served as our guest panelist this week—tweeting from the @ElderCareChat handle—and shared insights from her research and interviews with various experts on the topic (read all our posts on mental health here). Our 30 attendees talked about seeking help when signs and symptoms point to concerns, finding resources in the community and assisted living, and raising awareness so more people can get the support they need.
Discussion questions are embedded in this Storify presentation. Be sure to review all the insights shared by our 30 attendees via the transcript link, found below the visual recap:
Review the wealth of resources, insights and ideas shared in the full chat transcript (thanks to @ctffox of The Fox Group for connecting us to this invaluable service). Analytics — the who’s who of attendees and how many tweets went out during the live hour — are available too. See the stats.
We offer a “landing page” on our blog with information about the upcoming chat, including proposed discussion questions. Refer to this page for the latest.
Our next chat will be held on Wednesday, June 1st at 1ET. If you are interested in serving as a guest expert for a future chat, please reach out to Michelle Seitzer via the @OurParents Twitter handle for further details.
Please note: We meet on the 1st and 3rd Wednesday of each month. Anyone who is interested in and passionate about eldercare issues can join our chat, anytime. Prior participation is not required, nor is there a need to stay for the full hour.
Connect with us: If the “real-time” frame doesn’t sync with your schedule, or if you feel that your question or idea requires well beyond 140 characters, start a discussion thread on our LinkedIn page or use the #eldercarechat hashtag. The LinkedIn group is also a great place to continue previous discussions, connect with those who share similar interests, or talk about the services that you, or the company you represent, have to offer.
