#ElderCareChat 2/22/17: A Hopeful Discussion About Alzheimer’s Research and Care

After a brief hiatus, #ElderCareChat returned on February 22, 2017 with an important—and hopeful—focus on Alzheimer’s research and care. Founders OurParents.com, along with sister sites SeniorAdvisor.com and VeteranAid.org, were proud to host guest panelist Dr. Nina Silverberg, the National Institute on Aging’s Director of the Alzheimer’s Disease Centers Program. (Click to Tweet!)

The work being conducted by Dr. Silverberg and her team at The ADEAR Center at the National Institute on Aging (@Alzeimers_NIH), which was created by the federal government’s National Institutes of Health and part of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services in 1990, has done—and continues to do—amazing work. Their efforts are dedicated to the 5 million+ Americans who are living with the disease, a number that is estimated to grow to 14 million by 2050 unless we find ways to prevent and cure the disease. (Keep watch here for a future in-depth article about clinical trials and to get involved in their groundbreaking research.)

This #ElderCareChat joined together 38 participants who care passionate about senior care and the future of our aging population. Averaging 11 Tweets per participant, the one-hour chat resulted in a total of almost 3.5 million impressions via 426 Tweets that conveyed the latest research and efforts being taken to minimize the impact of Alzheimer’s disease on our family, friends, residents, and neighbors.
