amy-cameron-orourke-ALCA #ElderCareChat 4/12/17The next #ElderCareChat will be held on Wednesday, April 12, 2017, from 1-2 pm ET with guest panelist
Amy Cameron O’Rourke, current president of the Aging Life Care Association (formerly known as the National Association of Professional Geriatric Care Managers). Via the Aging Life Care Association Twitter account (@AgingLifeCare), Ms. O’Rourke will lead us in a discussion of how families can proactively prepare for aging versus reacting to a crisis.

The fact is, many seniors and their families fail to consider the realities of aging until there’s an emergency—and at that point, options are limited and decisions must be made under severe stress. But with appropriate education, problem-solving, and caregiver coaching, families can make forward-looking decisions together, rather than last-minute choices that might go against their loved one’s wishes. Indeed, the Aging Life Care Association (ALCA) envisions a world where adults and their families live well as they face the challenges of aging.

ALCA was formed in 1985 to advance dignified care for older adults and their families in the United States. Aging Life Care Professionals are health and human service professionals advocating and directing the care of older adults and others facing ongoing health challenges. As they work with families, their expertise provides answers at a time of uncertainty. Their guidance leads families to actions and decisions that ensure quality care and an optimal life for their loved ones, thus reducing family caregivers’ worry, stress, and time off work.

Amy Cameron O’Rourke, MPH, CMC, is the current president of the Aging Life Care Association, as well as the founder and president of The Cameron Group: Aging Life Care Services, located in Orlando, Florida. A licensed nursing home administrator and certified care manager, she has 30 years of experience in health care—23 specifically in the field of aging.
