My father was recently discharged from Chestnut. I was hesitant to place him there as his first stay a year ago was just mediocre. However, the rennovations they have just completed are gorgeous, and there appears to be all new nursing staff. Nursing staff was very knowledgeble.

My mother needed to stay at chestnut point for several weeks because of a fall. During her stay we experienced two opposite ends of the spectrum. The unit manager filled us with empty promises and was extremely fake and patronized us. My mother's main nurse however, was probably the best nurse I have ever had the pleasure of meeting. His knowledge and compassion put my mother at ease. There were times he would stay after his shift was over and just sit and talk with my mother, easing her fears. He was very thorough with her care and even bothered a doctor on a Friday night to get a medication ordered to help with my moms anxiety. Besides that, the place was a dump; the aids scared my mother by yelling at her whenever she would have an accident. If it wasnt for two nurses, the physical therapists and the admission girl I would have yanked my mother out of there AMA if I had to!!

Response: I know exactly who you are talking about! I also had a mother and aunt who was there and the week night supervisor and this young man were absolutely wonderful. They showed my loved ones patience and dedication. I also agree that the building was so disgusting it was hard to believe that they could pass a state inspection!

Present DON is unprofessional and has a nasty personality "my opinion only". She favors certain nurses and CNA's (unionized), "my opinion only". Has her favorites who can do no wrong,"my opinion only" Too many family members who are on staff who "my opinion only" are treated better than others and "my opionion only" have "had their jobs saved, by turning heads and sweeping mistakes under the rug" because of who they know. If this DON does not like you she will find a way to get rid of you, "in my opinion only". I have never seen so many nurses fired in the year I worked in a facility; not favorites of said DON; "in my opinion only. Very stressful work environment due to this which reflected on patient care; always walking on hot coals if you were not one of the "special ones", "my opinion only". Worst nursing job I ever had.
