11/26/2013 An Interested Visitor Writes: I have been shocked by the lack of professionalism shown by so many staff members at The Georgetown. My sister currently lives at The Georgetown. She suffers from dementia. Whenever I have talked to the nursing staff, they never seem to have any idea what is going on with my sister. They are continuing to let her drink alcohol (They have a cocktail hour where one drink is allowed, and one drink is allowed at dinner) although the dementia may be alcohol-related. I saw all of the residents DNR orders because a staff member thoughtlessly left this very private information out in the open. There are too many similar little incidents like this to mention here.

There is no doctor on staff and the management has no recommendation for a doctor who does house calls. There is no in-house physical therapy, which probably almost every resident there needs. I view The Georgetown as nothing more than a dorm for the elderly. I would strongly recommend you consider another assisted living facility if you're relative has needs beyond the basics. Don't be fooled by the price, The Georgetown is expensive because of location, not service.

10/07/2011 An OurParents User Writes: The Georgetown Retirement Residence is located in Georgetown, a beautiful, historic area of the District of Columbia. It is near Dupont Circle, and equidistant to three hospitals: George Washington, Georgetown, and Sibley.
The staff is extremely helpful and ready to assist residents with any request.
The Activities Director schedules a wide variety of programs to engage the residents. Many outside speakers and performers come weekly, i.e. Professor of Music Appreciation, Historian, Art Appreciation.
A new Director of Environment/Housekeeping has brought enthusiasm to refreshing each residents apartment.
The Director of Nursing has thoughtful caregivers who manage distribution of medications to those who are in Assisted Living.
The Executive Chef provides three delicious meals daily with a certain dish featured for lunch and dinner. If residents desire something different, they may chose from a menu offering salad platters, sandwiches or a full course meal of fish, beef or lamb. Desserts come with lunch and dinner and ice cream is always available!

07/07/2011 An Family Member of Current/Past Resident Writes: The food was extremely poor in quality and quantity -- very high in sodium. The room was not properly cleaned and trash allowed to remain for days. Georgetown "Retirement" has no retirees -- 99% of the residents are very sick -- wheel-chaired or walkers - many private duty nurses needed because nurses there are too busy.
