Sister was recently treated at the Oaks at Avon Park as well as My Ex- Husband. I found this facility to be typical of most nursing homes. Sister was verbally abused by a CNA and I requested my sister be moved. The administration responded promptly and reassigned the CNA and moved my sister to another room. Social services was suppose to order a walker for my ex which we never received. I asked the social worker about it more that once with a promise she would call me I never received a call back and finally bought a walker myself. My sister said on several occasions she would ring the bell for assistance and be told I will be right back and would never see them again. This occurred mostly on the night shift. The positive side is the physical therapy is VERY good with what seems to be very dedicated therapist. If you place a family member in this facility as well as most you will need to stay involved during their care there if the staff knows family is all ways there you will have less problems and address issues that concern you.

So unhappy with the care my mom is getting. We have been lied to or no answers at all. You have to tell them to bath someone or ask them to clean up the bed. You ask for pain pill and wait forever for it to come and may have to ask up to three times to get it. If they forget to do something they will tell you Dr. ordered it for another day, not knowing you talked to Dr. and he has told you what he has ordered. I could go on and on, but don't feel like it will change anything. So please think twice before you put a loved one in the home. If you have to please make sure you visit and asked lots of questions and follow up on them. Please don't just leave someone there to fend for themselves.

Not only was the social worker rude to us, the adminstrator was unprofessional and immature when we were trying to discuss the harassment my mother in law experienced,by the staff, when she decided to move him to a more appropriate facility,THE PALMS.This nursing home has a bad reputation throughout the community......i wouldn't send any one i loved to this place..The state of florida has rated this facility as POOR.

Description of Oaks at Avon, The in AVON PARK, FL

    Number of Beds : 104

Senator John Glenn once said, “Too many people, when they get old, think they have to live by the calendar.” A rejection of ‘calendar living’ perfectly describes the kind of world the senior living industry creates for millions of Americans over 55. Senior living is a lifestyle of personal choice. Those in senior living communities are never beholden to the calendar. They are free to be as active or inactive as they wish. If they want to relax and watch TV, they are free to do that, too. If they are healthy and independent and wish only to take advantage of fine housing, home-cooked meals, and cleaning services, they are free to do so. If they need assistance with some aspects of daily living, that type of community is available, too. Senior living also includes housing for those who require daily medical care as well as care for seniors who want to stay in their own homes. A well-organized system of care, senior living welcomes you for what YOU want to do.
