My father is clinging to life after being transported by ambulance to a nearby hospital today. The hospital staff told us that he is dehydrated and that our father had zero fluids in his body; as a result, his kidneys have shut down. Our father was a patient there for only 2.5 weeks and his lips were cracked and lips swollen. Whenever family visited, he asked for water or something to drink. When I questioned the "in charge" nurse, about the amount of fluids our father was given (intake and output) I was told that they are NOT MANDATED to keep these records in the patient chart, but located somewhere in the patient room. So she could note tell me with all certainty that my father was adequately hydrated. If you want a doctor to come in for the eval, you better stay on top of it; The physician sent his nurse practitioner instead and she did not spend hardly any time examining our father. I found myself on the phone with the "in-charge nurse" ever day expressing concerns about weight loss, filthy clothes, strong body odor, indicative of lack of sponge bathing, sores in the roof of his mouth from bacterial infection. I would definitely not put a dog in Destin Healthcare and Rehab Cener!!!!

My mother was at Destin Healthcare and Rehab, she had the horrible disease of dementia, she had fallen at home and broke her hip. My family and I found the facility to be very clean and the staff was wonderful not only to my mother, but to the family as a whole. I found everyone there to be compassinate and they gave great care. At one time my mother had to go to what is called starlight, it is a wonderful program they have for the residents, it provides activities, for residents that are high risk for falls. When the staff felt that starlight was no needed they contacted us before moving her. I will always recommend Destin Healthcare and rehab. I would watch family memebers come in and abuse the staff verbally, the staff was very professional, at times I wondered if they were so unhappy why would they leave their loved ones there! But I figured they knew the terrific care their family member recieved and maybe it was guilt. I would highly recommend Destin Healthcare and rehab to anyone. The nursing staff, therapy, and dietary will go to great lenghts to assure your loved one has the highest quaility of care. I could never repay the the nurses on the rehab unit for the loving care they provided.
