07/28/2012 An Family Member of Current/Past Resident Writes: MY FATHER IS CURRENTLY IN PALM GARDEN REHAB. HE HAS BEEN IN 3 OTHER REHABS IN THE LAST YEAR. PALM GARDENS IS NOT A PRETTY AS THE OTHERS HE HAS BEEN IN, BUT I CAN TELL YOU DO NOT JUDGE A BOOK BY ITS COVER. THE STAFF, ESPECIALLY THE CNA ARE EXCEPTIONAL. THE STAFF IS ALWAYS THERE TO ANSWER YOUR QUESTION, AND ASSIST YOU IN ANY WAY THEY CAN. THIS IS A PLACE WHERE THE WORKERS SHOW RESPECT AND CARE FOR THEIR PATIENTS. I COULD NOT BE HAPPIER WITH THE CARE Y FATHER IS GETTING. AGAIN, NOT FANCY, BUT IF YOU ARE LOOKING FOR GOOD CARE, THIS IS THE PLACE

06/06/2008 An OurParents User Writes: My mother has been there for over 7 years. My mother needs her feeding tube replaced. TWICE they sent her to the hospital emergency room for that, but the hospital sent her back, saying it was an outpatient surgery issue. Then they sent her to a surgery center in Fort Pierce. When I found out, I told Palm Garden that she had been there before for feeding tube replacement but they could not get a tube down her throat. They would not listen or even check their records which should show that. When she went to the surgery center, I told the nurse upon check-in that they would not be able to get a tube down her throat. Guess what. I was right. Now they have to find a surgeon who will replace the tube. In the mean time, my mother has acid burns around the tube opening and down her legs from the stomach acid. So they wasted time and taxpayer money (she is on medicaid)sending her TWICE to the emergency room and once to a center which has failed before in replacing the tube. I had to take off work each time to be with her. Do I see a lack of competence in patient case management here? You decide. Plus, you cannot pay bills on line (it has to be by check) and they don't have a system to have conferences on line about patient progress. Conferences have to be by phone or in person. How old fashioned.
