My dad has a history of climbing out of bed and falling after his hip surgery. He was transferred to Evergreen Woods for rehab. Since we live down the street, we were aware that EGW is an older facility and were concerned about rather he would do well there. I was not our first choice. But since he's been there, he has not gotten out of bed once. He has learned to ring for help, and wait for the nurse to come help. Not bad for an 86 year old who thinks he's in the military!
The equipment turned out to be the answer. They have him on a foam rubber mattress that kind of swallows him up when he lays down. The sides are high enough so he can't climb over the mattress. He also has a bed alarm, which has never even been needed so far. When in his wheelchair, he also has an alarm, that works so well, he's conspiring how he can get into bed with the chair, so it won't "make that noise".
Staff is busy, and have many patients to care for, but are great at multi-tasking. My dad has never been left unattended when he's in the bathroom. He gets great therapy every day including weekends. They have him further along in 2 weeks than the previous rehab facility had him in 1 month. Waiting for an aid to help him, might require some patience, but they always come as soon as they can, will let him know he's next on their list. No one slacks at EGW. He tells us that everyone is so nice and happy all the time.
They are doing a great job with my dad.
