My father was at Winter Park Towers for his rehabilitation after his head injury. Reflecting on the experience, I can not remember anything even remotely negative or neglectful in/with his care. My mother was treated with dignity and respect too (regardless of how many questions she asked). The CNA's are probably the hardest workers in the facility, but their care and assistance and humor is what Dad remembers most. The nursing staff is thorough and knowledgeable. We actually never saw or spoke to/with a doctor the entire time there, so all medical information and whatnot was handled by the nurses. Personalities mesh or don't, even in the nursing profession, so some were more welcoming and compassionate than others. But no one was rude or curt, just professional not chatty. Physical therapy was a God-send, each and every one of them. The "patience of a saint" describes their interactions with my Dad. Speech therapy, Occupational therapy - personable, friendly, and jovial with the family yet determined and comforting to the patient. The social services ladies walked us through many processes unfamiliar to us before this experience. Medicare, Medicaid, VA benefits, supplies needed, transportation to outside doctors and even the denture replacement office. Family meetings were arranged for our questions and understanding. No question was dismissed or ignored. I, and our family, would recommend Winter Park Towers to others. Ours was a short stay (only 90 days) but Dad was able and ready to come home and continue his healing and rehab. Each case is individual. Dad's was as positive as the situation would allow.

My Dad required rehab and Winter Park Towers was recommended. It was a horrible experience - from incorrect medication dispensed to delay in medication dispensed. My Dad was told to push the button for assistance and was not allowed to get up without assistance - so continually soaked clothing and bed. Button would be pushed and no response for more than 18 minutes (and yes I was there timing it - I would end up taking him to the restroom). They told me that my Dad could continue after the 20 days (paid for by Medicare) for $140 and change per day. Right! Why would we pay for him to be soaked daily? When I brought him home, he was barely able to walk (using a cane) from the bedroom to the kitchen without legs shaking. I'm not completely sure what kind of physical therapy he received. And, I did talk to Administration - nothing changed. I told them they needed Quality Control - to make sure things were getting done correctly and they basically said that we were the only ones having this experience. I visited daily and sometimes twice a day...

Response: I think it is the worst . My brother has bed sores that should be taken care of twice a day and some times they are not care for for days. They always have some excuse or say they will be back later and never show up. He has trouble with his eyes and has three different kinds of drop to be taken again they have trouble finding time to give them to him. His a/c has been out now for 4 days and his room is like a oven. His nurses light has been out for days now and he has to yell to get a nurse. There are so much more but I would take up the whole page. I would Never Send anyone there.

Assisted living affords a healthy, secure, and supportive environment for seniors who need help with day-to-day tasks but who still want to retain their self-sufficiency. Why choose an assisted living community? Studies reveal that living near peers and participating in social activities leads to a happier life. Assisted living offers senior-friendly residences and a warm staff. Communities have additional services that include 24-hour supervision and security, emergency response systems, access to licensed nursing care, chef-prepared meals, and assistance with grooming, dressing, and bathing. Laundry, housekeeping, social programs, and local transportation are typically provided as well. When you are autonomous but want to be in the company of your peers, choose indepedent living and enjoy amenities and services geared towards seniors. Intended for both individuals and couples, these senior communities are also known as senior apartments, retirement villages, and communities for 55 and older. Residents stay in private apartments or individual homes with an abundance of community amenities, services, and programs tailored specifically for seniors. Your personal belongings, such as furniture and favorite mementos, can move to your new home with you. Because independent living communities are intended for older adults who need little or no assistance, most do not offer medical care or supervision. Community services and amenities usually include fitness clubs, dining facilities, swimming pools, golf courses, hiking trails, social events, and more. Memory care gives a higher level of attention, regular memory enhancement programs, and social opportunities, all in a secure, warm setting. Memory care is different from the care provided in assisted living, requiring a dedicated staff that is skilled in techniques unique to memory care. Residents live in private or semi-private residences with twenty-four-hour support. Three healthy meals a day plus snacks are provided, as well as housekeeping and laundry services. Structured activities designed specifically for memory impairment encourage mental stimulation. Grounds typically have secured areas, such as walking paths and gardens, for residents to enjoy.
