12/26/2013 An Interested Visitor Writes: Went and visited my grandparents Wednesday for Christmas, at their "home" at Tara Plantations in @#$%, Ga. I haven't seen them in awhile, and was kind of dreading it because of all the stuff I have heard about this place.

When I arrived, I was immediately greeted by a staff member. Everyone was so happy, smiling, having a great Christmas Day. The staff was singing with the other residents. One staff member was even dancing with a lady. They were having a blast! I went to my grandparents room, and was surprised how clean, and home like it was for them. There were no smells anywhere in the building that I went too.

Bottom line, my grandparents love it there, and are very happy! They were telling me how the staff loves to come chat, interact, make them smile and laugh, and just simply check on them. They couldn't ask for a better place to live. They feel so safe, secure and loved there.

I must apologize for more dreaded thoughts of this place, for you have respectfully changed mind for the best. I am so thankful for a staff that loves my grandparents as much as I do, and are willing to take awesome care of them!
Tara Plantations... much applause to you, your staff and facility!

Sincerely,
A thankful Grandson

Response: It is obvious that someone at Tara Plantation wrote this review.

12/18/2013 An Interested Visitor Writes: I am currently an employee at Tara Plantations. Absolutely love this place!! I have previously worked at another assisted living facility, and it was nothing compared to this place! At Tara, there is always enough staff here. It is so clean. There is no foul smells. The décor makes it feel like a home. Staff and management treat the residents at Tara like family. The other place I previously worked at, was a newer facility, however, they didn't care to much about the residents there. There was no "home like" décor, the caregivers were not a team, management had the " I don't care" attitude as long as they had a full house. And the only interaction was at activities. At Tara, the residents are always interacting with each other. I would recommend Tara to anyone who is looking for a HOME for their family member. I promise, you won't be disappointed!

12/18/2013 An Interested Visitor Writes: Our 42 year old son was at Tara for a month of respite care. The experience for him was life changing and very positive. The accomodations were more than expected and the nursing care was personalized and prompt! The staff communicated often keeping family informed of any needs and concerns. Everyone at Tara (staff and residents) are all so loving, caring, and welcoming. Our experience at Tara was very positive and we would recommend Tara to anyone.

12/17/2013 An Interested Visitor Writes: My name is Quentin Evans and I am writing on behalf of my mother, Martha Evans who is a 95 year old resident at Tara Plantation in @#$% Georgia. My purpose is to express the gratitude of our family and to recognize the excellent care she is receiving at Tara. Despite dementia, limited mobility , and her limited hearing, the staff has been able to keep her moving and involved. She is treated like a family member.

Mom fell on Thanksgiving and suffered a broken hip which required surgery. Five days after returning to Tara which she calls “home”, the staff had Mom up in a wheelchair, smiling and eating in the dining room with her friends. This was only possible due to hard work and tender care by the team at Tara.

The loving care Mom has received at Tara has improved the quality of her life and that of our extended family. On behalf of the Evans family I want to thank you and recognize the outstanding efforts of your staff.

    Regards,

    Quentin Evans

Response: I guess your mother was living there when Channel 2 and Channel 11 showed up when the health department had files 152 complaints against Tara Plantation.

12/17/2013 An Interested Visitor Writes: I can say from my personal experience of Tara Plantation it has done nothing but meet my expectations of my loved one being there. Day one when walking through that door it felt like home. It's not all modernized and fancy, but instead to me it has that more inviting home like feel. The staff has been exceptional. Someone is always there to help and take care of what is needed. I have seen how involved they are and truly treat these residents like they are family.

When I first starting researching communities I heard a lot of negativity about several of the communities in the @#$% area including Tara. I was very skeptical, but after taking the time to go visit each one I then realize you can't always go on what others say until you see it yourself. Very reasonable pricing which includes everything, clean, and great care is exactly what we were looking for in a home.

12/17/2013 An Interested Visitor Writes: I was employed with Tara in 2006 and left due to illness, I returned to Tara in 2011 when all the noise was the State of Georgia was going to shut us down. After going through several management along with changes in staffing, I have enjoyed the positive changes in decor, different activities and renovations. Our maintenance man works hard to keep every thing working and is right on top of things as they need working on. We now have LPN's who are there 24 hours a day working along with our wellness director to help keep the residents healthy and happy. The residents are our lives. I love each and everyone of them. I would love for my own mother to be here if the needs ever arrives for her not to live alone. I have enjoyed working for Tara and the staff and management work together well with the resident as one big family.

12/16/2013 An Interested Visitor Writes: Tara Plantation is an older community with character. There have been challenges over the last several years including changes in management, staff turnover and a lack of investment in the facility. Over the last 6 months the new owners have spent in excess of $75,000 in improvements to the existing infrastructure. Additionally the management team has been in place for the last 7 months and the community is growing. Nurses have been added to the building providing 24 hour care available to all residents. The current sanitation score is 99 and there are no citations outstanding from the state for the community. There are no pending lawsuits to close the community on the contrary all issues form the past have been resolved. The maintenance tech that works in the building is awesome taking care of any issues that arise in a timely fashion. The new director has hired additional staff to ensure quality resident care and ensure that the building is active, clean and free of odors. There is a contract with a pest control service who inspects the property every month for pests and none have been found that have been reported. I know all this information intimately because I worked in the admin area during the last year.

Since Tara Plantation has got new management it has improved so much. It is the best job that I have ever worked. Management makes you feel like family and the residents feel like family. I actually look forward to coming to work here everyday. The entire place has experienced a transformation. Denise

12/03/2013 An Interested Visitor Writes: I wish I had read the user reviews before I decided to leave my father at Tara Plantation. After 6 months I could not wait to find him another place to live. They over billed and the place is filthy. I checked with the health department and found out there have been many citations issued to Tara Plantation. Could not keep help very long and were very understaffed. Once they get you in there is no co operation from management. From what I understand attorneys are in the process of filling a class action lawsuit against the owners Assisted Living Concepts. Beware of this facility.

10/28/2013 An Interested Visitor Writes: Absolutely the worst run assisted living facility I have ever seen. One of my family members was there until I found out that the health department had over 150 complaints. Not just 1 but 150. When I tried to move out I was billed for the next 6 months. Tara Plantation is owned by a company called Assisted Living Concepts which will not return your call. If you do get someone on the phone they will tell you that they will check on the problem and call you back. By that time the resident director has been replaced and the new one knows nothing about the existing problem. It is all about the MONEY and that is all they care about. Do your homework if you are thinking about this facility and save yourself all lot of aggravation and attorney fees before it is over.

05/19/2013 An Family Member of Current/Past Resident Writes: Owned be a company names Assisted Living Concepts that are a bunch of crooks. One of my family members was there 2 weeks and passed away. We immediately vacated the room and cleaned it out. We understood that we would have to pay for the full month which is what we were told origionally. We continued to get billed for several months after the death and now were told we had to pay the for several months. They had a collecting agency continuously harrassing us saying we owed over $5500.00 The origional resident director was now gone and could not located. They had several directors during that time that all knew nothing about our discussion with the first one. Employees last only a week or two before they quit or are fired. Try calling Assisted Living Concepts to get someone that might be able to make a decission and they will not return your call. If you do get someone they will tell you that they will have to check on the problem and call you back. Needless to say that they will not call you back but you will sure hear from their collection agency. If you elect to use this facility make sure you get everything in writing and signed by someone that will still be with this company when you have a problem. You might want to have your attorney write the agreement with Assisted Living Concepts as he will be involved with it sooner or later if you use this facility. It is all about the money and are well known for over billing. Nicer assisted living facilities located close by. Will soon be out of business in @#$% Ga.

02/11/2013 An Current/Past Employee Writes: I am currently a med-tech at Tara Plantation. I have been here ever since we changed ownership. We have had our ups and downs, but things are picking up. We have a new awesome Administrator. our staff to resident ratio is actually VERY good compared to other facilities. we have 4 caregivers every shift, 3 on 3rd, for only 23 residents. that is very high considering the state requirements are only 1 to 15.
And we are not closing, that's for sure, the judge ruled that there is not one thing at Tara Plantation that is putting the residents in harms way. All this was brought up due to The department of Health is mad at our owners in Wisconsin. they are taking it out on every facility owned by the company in GA. LOOK IT UP

Response: How can you be sure Tara Plantation is not closing for good. The health department claimed on Channel 2 that is was going to shut it down. I guess you will be there by your self looking out the window. Get a life!!!

01/26/2013 An Family Member of Current/Past Resident Writes: Looks like the managers or owners are now writing reviews to sound good. The last review was not from someone that their family menber had stayed there or must not have been there very long. Check it out or ask anyone that their family member has had to stay at Tara Plantation. Absolutely awful and over bill. Many health department issues. Will be closed within months.

Response: In response to this review that must have been written the the management. My mother was at Tara Plantation for a little over 5 years and never was offered lasagna. She said the meals were awful and in some cases not fit to eat.Why don't you leave your father there for a month or two and then write what you think.

01/11/2013 An Family Member of Current/Past Resident Writes: I had my Father stay there for a few nights while my husband and I went on a cruise. I found the facility clean and it had a very warm environment. The staff were very nice and they even made my Father his favorite meal-lasagna ! My Father was very happy with his visit there. I would definitely recommend this facility.

Response: Written by management of Assisted Living Concepts. If they will lie to you here they will lie to you about the care of your loved one. Better places in town.

11/27/2012 An Family Member of Current/Past Resident Writes: Honestly, I stayed the night there with my mom and I thought the place was GORGEOUS, the activities were fun and the staff were friendly. I don't understand what all the negative reviews are about. Maybe a former, disgruntled employee?

09/30/2012 An Family Member of Current/Past Resident Writes: Absolutely the worst assisted living facility I have ever seen. The resident directors and helpers seem to act like they love your family menber ubtil you leave the facility. My mother said they treated her terrible after I left. Its all a show as they could care less. Constantly trying to run up your level of care when it is not needed. Mean to the tenants. Surprised it is still open and probably will not be for long.

08/28/2012 An Family Member of Current/Past Resident Writes: Very poor run facility. I had to move my father out after he told me how he had been treated. Food was terrible.Place is filthy. Employees including directors do not last long. Health department issues. Over billing is common. Out of state owners will not return calls. Better places close by.

08/17/2012 An Family Member of Current/Past Resident Writes: My family member was there for several years until I found out that this place is a complete disaster. Understaffed and nasty. From the time Assisted living concepts purchased Tara Plantation they could not keep directors more than a week at a time. They paid mininum wage to the workers that had not been qualified or had back ground checks.I witnessed a patient roll off the stairs in a wheel chair with no one assisting him, others falling with no help as they were understaffed. They failed to admininster drugs as perscribed by the patients doctors. They overbilled by selecting a level of care way in excess of what the patient actually needed. They charge $300 per month for each level of care and in many cases overbilled a patient as much as 2 levels of care each month. It is all about the money for Assisted Living Concepts Tara Plantation and could care less for the caring of your family member.

08/12/2012 An Current/Past Employee Writes: I am the original Executive Director of Tara Plantation, having opened it in early 1998 and left in 1999 to be a full-time parent. The owners themselves were actually in North Carolina. My mother recently made me aware of the problems after reading about it in the AJC. I am, to say the very least, heartbroken. I staffed the facility at 1 CAREGIVER to every 6 residents (not including other staff!), consistently had a perfect health score, had rare staff turnover and the facility not only never had violations, we consistently received REFERRALS from the LTCO office and the Alzheimer's Association. In addition, the facility never, EVER had unpleasant odors. My staff took great pride in their work and we led with our hearts, as I impressed upon them that our job was to treat each resident as we would want our own family treated. My grandfather continued to live there after I left and until he passed. Please continue to demand the very best for your family members, because they deserve it. Also, I was only licensed for 77 and my fees ranged from $1,250 to $2,400, with the highest being for a private room in the dementia unit. (Granted, this was a number of years ago, but even allowing for inflation, it shouldn't be almost double that!) No extra fees were charged. Staff were all paid significantly above minimum wage, I gave paid sick time, paid vacation time and health/life/disability insurance. I can't understand why it is so difficult for companies to run a morally-driven business because many of us have proven that it can be done and still turn a profit. My heart goes out to you all because I know finding good, affordable care is terribly challenging.

    1

Response: I am the new director. I would enjoy meeting you and shwoing you the new culture at Tara.

07/18/2012 An Current/Past Employee Writes: Biggest bunch of crooks I have ever met. They tell your family member that they love them. Turn your back and they treat them worst than I have ever seen. They do not care about anything except the money. Assisted living concepts should be and will be sued for the lack of care and overbilling that takes place. Will not be open long in @#$% Ga.

    1

06/28/2012 An Interested Visitor Writes: Channel 2 interviewed Tara Plantation ex employees 2 weeks ago. They had over 130 complaints against them. The health dept is shutting them down. Much cleaner & nicer facilities located in the same vicinity in @#$% Ga.

06/13/2012 An Family Member of Current/Past Resident Writes: My mother was at Tara Plantation for several years. They were originally locally owned until they were bought out by Assisted Living Concepts. From then on it went completely down hill. Its all about money and not about care in any way. I was asked to use there drug suppliers Omnicare Inc.in Conyers Ga. I did what was suggested to me. All of a sudden her medicines went from around $300 per month to over $1200 per month. After looking at what was being sent to her and then comparing what she was actually taking it did not match even close. I then found out a worker at Tara Plantation was accepting delivery of these expensive drugs and sending them back for a cash credit. My mother was not getting the drugs she needed nor the care we expected. It was one thing after another and inexperienced workers that were I am sure underpaid as the did not last long. This place will be closed within weeks if other resident families knew the disaster of how it is run.

04/09/2012 An Family Member of Current/Past Resident Writes: This place is a complete mess from the management level and up. Running on a shoe string budget for payroll to improve profit margin to sell to more investors. Patient care is a very low priority at this facility.

    1

    Response: I agree!

Response: Why don't you stay there for a night or two and see if you still feel the same. They drug the patients so they do not have any idea what is going on. Terrible odors and filthy living conditions. The health department has threatened to shut them down.

11/20/2011 An Family Member of Current/Past Resident Writes: I had the pleasure of moving my mother to the building this past summer and the staff did a wonderful job on keeping her happy and clean. The building is very clean, the food good and the care great. The next time I go out of town or need a well-deserved break, I am going to give them a call. A very compassionate and caring community.
