03/06/2012 An Family Member of Current/Past Resident Writes: No skillled nurse or regiistered nurse on staff.. They hire one skilled nurse for one hour for real nursing Cheaper for. Them that way. They perform Real nursing care. Such as blood tests, injections, etc. The Northwest community Hospital is only two doors away and that is good because the. complete lack of proper nursing. Care at Church Creek care is dangerous". They hire low paid HIndu women. who try their best as they are terrified of losing their jobs if they make a. mistake. The administration is threatening and two-faced. Go to Luther VilL St. In Arlington Heights instead. Stay. Away from this hell-hole if you want to come out in one piece. Do, NOT Go HERE"..".!,,,,,,,

05/29/2011 An Family Member of Current/Past Resident Writes: DO NOT permit your family member to be placed at Church Creek in Arlington Heights for rehab services. The staff is incompetent, the equipment is inadequate and the goal is profit, not rehabilitation. Our mother was overmedicated, groggy and nauseous when she was admitted with a broken ankle. Within two weeks of her admission we began to receive warnings that if she did not stop "resisting therapy" and being "participating in her own rehabilitation" Church Creek would sever her Medicare skilled-care eligibility. After 7 weeks, they announced they were doing so. We found another facility and moved her, refusing to sign the paper accepting the discontinuation of Medicare coverage at Church Creek. She left for ManorCare on Kirchoff Road on a Friday night. By Monday afternoon, she was sitting in a chair and was briefly on her feet with assistance. Church Creek lacked the equipment to help her. One incompetent PT said right off the bat that "we would use" a pallet that could be repositioned into a chair, but Church Creek didn't have one and "we work with what we have." There was never another indication to us that our mother's care required better resources than Church Creek had available. What Church Creek DID do was inform us that we could keep her there if we ponied up an $8500 deposit on a room for the first month - didn't include physical therapy, drugs or the bed she needed in order to prevent bedsores, which were a danger because THEY NEVER GOT HER OUT OF BED. Our mother lost weeks of time and grew exponentially weaker with each bedridden day, and taxpayers lost thousands of dollars on Medicare financing of an approach that was abusive (the PTs' chief technique was to hector her to "help herself") and that Church Creek knew or should have known was ineffective. Stay away from this place.

09/17/2009 An OurParents User Writes: I have family who have been in both the independent living and skilled nursing section of Church Creek. Church Creek was formerly owned by Marriott and it was FABULOUS. Then Sunrise bought it and the changes started - all for the worse.

The former staff (over time) was dumped. Staff turnover has escalated exponentially. The food quality went down and down. The management is like a revolving door, so there is no knowledge or memory of how things are done or why. The roof leaks when it rains hard. No one communicates about why things are done or what happens (like why fire alarms go off or why the elevators are out of service and when they'll be fixed). They have an in-building TV channel but they don't use it for those kinds of important announcements.

Some of the staff are stellar and will work very hard to make sure things are right. The rehab team and nurses in skilled nursing are the best. It's the management staff (corporate) I fault for most of the problems at Church Creek. Sunrise has been fighting off bankruptcy, so I think they're cutting costs where ever they can and that has translated into fewer staff and poorer food quality. I would move my family member to another facility if it was practical.
