We placed our father in this facility because he needed more specialized care than we were able to provide him. He has mobility problems and needs assistance sitting up, getting out of bed and using the bathroom. This was all covered in detail prior to his placement there. We were upset at the level of treatment received. The food tray would be brought in and left without assisting him in sitting up so he could eat. Several times we came to the location to find he had soiled himself because no one would come and assist him with using a bed pan. Despite repeated conferences with the administrative staff no improvement was seen and we removed him from the facility. We were very unhappy with the facility and shocked because we had heard good things about it in the past.

My mother lived at Westminster for a little over a year. We had nothing but problems. She said that the staff didn't give her any attention or assistance unless we were visiting. I visited many times to find that her bathroom wasn't properly stocked (no toilet paper, no hand soap, etc). I was furious, but my mother begged me not to complain out of fear that they might take it out on her. Don't get me wrong, she wasn't afraid of being beatin' or anything...just ignored. Not to mention it is crazy expensive. My father in law has been living at the Blair House in normal and the difference between the communities is crazy...send your family to Blair House - less expensive, friendlier staff, and better food!

Westminster Village is a nursing home. It provides medical nursing service for seniors with serious illnesses or disabilities twenty-four hours a day, delivered by registered nurses, licensed practical nurses, and certified nurse aids.

Nursing care facilities cater to several types of patients: some patients require short-term rehab while recovering from surgery; others require long-term nursing and medical supervision. In addition, some nursing homes offer specialized care programs for Alzheimer's or other illnesses, or short-term respite care for frail or disabled persons when a family member requires a rest from providing care in the home. Please note that you can help compare nursing homes by looking at the Medicare ratings of a given facility (Medicare has a 5-star rating system for comparing nursing homes). There are various ways for paying for care in a nursing home. Make sure you know your loved one's Medicare and Medicaid eligibility, and understand how you can use tools like long term care insurance to pay for nursing home care.

Also, Westminster Village is an assisted living facility. Assisted living facilities are an apartment-style habitat designed to focus on providing assistance with daily living activities. They provide a higher level of service for the elderly which can include preparing meals, housekeeping, medication assistance, laundry, and also do regular check-in's on the residents. Basically, they are designed to bridge the gap between independent living and nursing home facilities. When thinking about how to pay for care, assisted living facilities are generally less expensive than nursing homes, if assisted living is a viable option for your loved one.

Also, Westminster Village is a Senior Community. Senior communities are for seniors who can take care of themselves. It is often a set of apartments in a variety of sizes from studios to large two bedrooms, where seniors live independently, but may receive additional services like transportation, pools, a convenience store, bank, barber/beauty shop, resident laundry, housekeeping, and security, are all services and amenities that may be provided there.

Also, Westminster Village is a Micro community, which means it is a smaller senior community. It is a Residential Care Facility. Some people prefer it for its smaller less institutional setting.

Also, Westminster Village is a skilled nursing facility (SNF). It is primarily engaged in providing skilled nursing care and related services for residents who require medical or nursing care; or rehabilitation services for the rehabilitation of injured, disabled, or sick persons.

Skilled nursing facilities cater to patients who either need short-term rehab while recovering from surgery; or require long-term nursing and medical supervision. Skilled Nursing facilities are very often associated with area hospitals.
