ATTENTION: To those in the medical/healthcare industry or going into that field, please make sure that you are going into it with the mindset of helping others and a passion for caring for them. For those working in nursing homes, remember that the patient you are working with could be you or a family member one day. I am extremely upset with Fairhaven Christian Home in Decatur, IL. My grandmother recently had knee replacement surgery, which was to be followed up with in patient therapy. She went to Fairhaven on Tuesday of this week and it took less than 24 hours for us to have her out of there. Wednesday morning my mother called to check on my grandma and noticed in her voice that there was something not right. My grandmother informed her that she had not received breakfast. My mom called the nursing station and was rudely informed "we already fed her, she's been a bit delusional today". My mom asked if she had the right patient because my grandmother does not need assistance with feeding her. Luckily, my mom took this as a sign and her and my aunts headed to the nursing home. When they arrived they found out that my grandmother, who is a diabetic, blood sugar was 65, and had been given 24 units of insulin. This would explain her being disoriented. The reason given for this oversight was "that's what the doctor ordered". Anyone in that field should have the common sense to know that if blood sugar is low you give something sweet to bring the sugar up. Had my family not got there she could have went into a diabetic coma. Needless to say, she was back at home with family that day. There so much more that went on within that 24 hours, but FB you get the jest of the story. DO NOT SEND YOUR FAMILY TO FAIRHAVEN "CHRISTIAN" HOME.

My mother was mistreated there. She was verbally abused. The assistants working there are rude and abusive. My Mother was encouraged by staff to walk without help, she fell and is how physically maimed for life. The director has no heart and basically called my mother a liar. Send your parent anywhere but there.

The staff are helpfull at times but not always, my grandmother did not recieve the care she was suppose to get there were times she was in dirty clothes, her room was dirty, she also recieved bruises, she was not bathed. The home spelled bad from the moment I walked in the door. They would bring her food and she was not able to feed herself yet they did not help her eat. The staff got angry when we questioned the care she was recieving. We wanted to move her and they fought us every step of the way. My overall rating for this home is very poor and I would not recommend the home for anyones loved one.
