Our family is concerned about bill payment practices at the Wealshire. I am a health care professional and this is a true and ongoing story. Since June 2014, the Wealshire administration has acknowledged--in writing--multiple times that they owe our family a refund of over $6000 for nursing home care previously provided to our elderly mother (now deceased). However, they have repeatedly failed to pay this debt to our family. Over the past year, my brother and I have had well over 30 email communications with Wealshire staff, including very high level administration, regarding this outstanding debt, without any success in receiving payment. The Wealshire's pattern of behavior is not to respond, or occasionally to respond and say they are sorry and will pay, but then never to send the check. This has happened multiple times, including most recently January 2015. The situation is very concerning as either the Wealshire cannot run their business effectively and pay a simple family refund, or they hope that over time our family will just give up and go away.

For these reasons, we want to share our experience with the Wealshire and offer a warning about their business and specifically debt payment practices. We have found that we cannot rely on the Wealshire to pay the debt they acknowledge they owe us.

I toured several rehab centers pn the North Shore before I had my double knee replacement. I was not particularly impressed with the places my surgeons office said to look at. My neighbor said she spent 3 weeks at The Wealshire after her hip fracture, and told me it as the best place to go. I took her advice and boy am I happy I did. The staff was so very helpful. Everyone was friendly. When I couldn't get the Wi Fi to work, there was a maintenance person there in 5 minutes who got me online right away. The therapy was wonderful! My knees work better than they have in years! If you are looking for a very nice, upscale, quality place to go for rehabilitation, I highly recommend the Wealshire. The orthopedic unit was always full, so it's good to make a reservation as early as you can.

I spent 6 weeks rehabbing after hip surgery revision. I had previously rehabbed in 2 other places prior to this and had spent considerable time with my mother in another rehab facility. Wealshire is the very best! From the moment you walk thru the front door you can tell the difference. It's beautiful. Every window in every room looks out at a garden or courtyard with colorful landscaping. The nursing staff is amazing. From the head nurse to the CNA's everyone is always trying to meet your every need. They are always smiling and happy and you can tell they enjoy working with you and each other. The Wealshire has a family feel to it. It is broken into small units where each unit has an open kitchen, dining room and living room that looks out to the beautiful grounds. I enjoyed "lunching with the girls" and made some very nice acquaintances with other rehab patients. Upon returning home I went back to visit several times as I really missed the people there from the administrator down. If I, or any of my family ever need to rehab again we will be going to the Wealshire without hesitation.

Nursing care facilities cater to several types of patients: some patients require short-term rehab while recovering from surgery; others require long-term nursing and medical supervision. In addition, some nursing homes offer specialized care programs for Alzheimer's or other illnesses, or short-term respite care for frail or disabled persons when a family member requires a rest from providing care in the home. Please note that you can help compare nursing homes by looking at the Medicare ratings of a given facility (Medicare has a 5-star rating system for comparing nursing homes). There are various ways for paying for care in a nursing home. Make sure you know your loved one's Medicare and Medicaid eligibility, and understand how you can use tools like long term care insurance to pay for nursing home care.

Also, The Wealshire is an assisted living facility. Assisted living facilities are an apartment-style habitat designed to focus on providing assistance with daily living activities. They provide a higher level of service for the elderly which can include preparing meals, housekeeping, medication assistance, laundry, and also do regular check-in's on the residents. Basically, they are designed to bridge the gap between independent living and nursing home facilities. When thinking about how to pay for care, assisted living facilities are generally less expensive than nursing homes, if assisted living is a viable option for your loved one.

Also, The Wealshire facility provides Alzheimer's care. This means it has special safeguards for wandering seniors, and caregivers are trained in handling dementia behaviors.
