Made a preliminary online inquiry about pricing for Villa Scalabrini Assisted Living, was immediately called and transferred to Amy, an advocate...stated there was a 'process' of questions required first, and if I did not complete their 'process', I should contact facility locally, ok, then asked for local number, she said she could not give it to me without completing the 'process', she hung up on me when I stated this was misleading!

My mother's wounds were not properly cared for and became severely infected. She also mysteriously got a one & a half inch gash on her leg that was black and tissue was dying before we even were notified. Also patients do sit in a wheel chair or lay in bed the entire day. We were private pay and expected more from a facility costing $7000 a month.

ok

Response: My father recently passed away while he was at VS. When he was on Medicare, he was bathed, alert and was doing therapy everyday. Once the 100 days passed, no more therapy, room changed from time to time as well as not being cleaned. We once found a used IV on the floor! Some nurses or should I say CNA's were not friendly and always felt like we were intruding when we ask to change my falther's diaper because he soild himself and to change sheets as well. It seems all patients are constantily in wheel chairs. I truly believe this is why patients can no longer walk! Very depressing place once you go to other parts of the nursing home. The two front wings when you enter the building seems alive and all, but that is only for patients who are there on short term. Office staff is friendly and willing to assist you on your needs, but the nursing staff is not. You never see the physicans. All I know is that you need to be in their faces when you are not happy with what you see....but once you leave...who knows. I did not see any interaction with volunteers, etc. All we would see is the patients sitting in wheel chairs all day long staring at the walls and/or tv. Very sad.

My mother was at Villa Scalabrini rehab about two years ago, and had excellent care...she fell again last year and the doctors suggested she go there for some rehab, they put her in a different section from last time almost like the nursing home side and it was terrible....she lasted there 3 days I pulled her out of there...dirty, smelly, nurses were just terrible, caught them in the act yelling at my mother like a dog...just terrible....
