My dad has lived here just over a year and absolutely loves it. The staff knows everybody by name and you can tell they really care about the residents. There is always something for him to do and he loves the food, especially the breakfasts! We looked all around at different places and I am glad we chose this one!

For Mother's Day they gave us a sack meal. Mine had only a 1/2 a sandwich, some potato chips, and a cookie. That is what they do for all holidays, and also for a lot of "holidays" like halloween, etc.
They should have extra special meals on holidays, but instead they give us sack meals. They say it is so the staff can be with THEIR families on holidays. Well - if that is the case, they should cater in meals for us. We don't HAVE families to have holiday meals with. That is why we pay a very high amount of money to live at Independence Village. But we just get sack meals on holidays. We get no discount for those meals either. I think it is RUDE and CRIMINAL that they don't give us decent meals on holidays.

Response: I live here as well and we had a really nice Mother's Day meal for lunch and a great breakfast. I don't mind having a sandwich and something light for dinner so that others can spend time with their families. It is just one meal and only occasionally. The staff are great! I lived in another faciltity and it was horrible. Independence Village does a wonderful job! I love the food! The staff are caring and responsive. I am glad I switched and came here.

It has its good and its bad. I guess every place does. The staff is really inconsistent. That is, some of the staff are really good, but certainly not all of them. Some are just there to pass the time and collect a paycheck and others really care about the folks who live here. Overall, it seems like the attitude is to do the minimum to get by. Some of them do go above and beyond, though. Overall, I'd say its tolerable here. It isn't worth the price, though, and I am looking at other options. They should either lower the price, or raise the level of service and care to the level that is warranted by the rates you pay,

Moved my dad in 6 months ago and he loves it! Food is great, staff is super and dad is healthier than he has been in a long time!

    The food is abysmal.

    The maid service is lacking.

The building is beautiful and has a warm, inviting feeling when you walk in. The staff from the bottom to the leadership is excellent. I can really tell they care about their residents. They take extra special care to know each resident and their likes/dislikes. They take concerns seriously and address them immediately. They are not the cheapest, but you definitely get what you pay for.

There are a lot of really nice residents there. No complaints there.

The staff is overall inept. Some of the staff are decent, but the management is incompetent. Consequently things don't get done, and a lot of the staff don't do their jobs because management doesn't hold them accountable. I feel sorry for the good staff who are trying to do good things and help the residents only to see that their bosses don't care about the residents and some of their co-workers that take advantage of the situation. It is very unfortunate, because this all comes out to the detriment of the residents.

Response: My parents live at Indepedence Village. I think the staff is terrific! They are helpful and very friendly. My parents love it there and they are very well cared for. They like the food and activities as well as the other residents. I think it is a wonderful place and my parents are very happy there.

They offer all kinds of neat things / services, but then, they always cancel them even though the lease says they will provide them.
In my opinion, they are crooks in that they don't provide what the lease promises and that the residents pay for.

    Management completely non-responsive.
Food not good and I have seen them serve food that fell on the floor.
Overall a lack of care and consideration for the residents.

Response: We have had the exact same experience that you have had. The maids don't even show up, the maintenance is non-existent.
Unfortunately, the Director is hardly ever there during the day (or any other time for that matter) and even if you do catch her, she promises to get things made right, but she never does. I have zero confidence in her abilities there. She certainly doesn't get things done. Probably because she is never there.
