No one takes responsibility of the care of these residents, no communication to staff or about staff, no nurse or administrator available on saturdays.

Response: You are correct, Midwest owns this in Manhattan along with StoneyBrook and both places are dumps. Susan Reed, fired for corruption, Mary Jo Berg, Fired for corruption, both directors of the Assisted Living there and the decent directors would not stay long. Drunken CMA's with abuse records protected by drunken LPN's like Spriggs and Wingfield. The State inspectors are to blame as well for not seeing what is right infront of them.

Or rather to dismiss Roggenkamp Spriggs soon enough. Alcoholic nurses who get paid for being on call and who won't come in for a week end emergency for residents who were misdiagnosed by their doctors with a lung infection instead of what they really had, 4th stage lung cancer, these nurses should have caught the attention of Mid West Health corporation sooner instead of allowed to let their drinking problems endanger the residents health needs.

Response: Why is Midwest Healthcare allowing the three people that the director of Stoneybrook Assisted Living wanted to fire to work among the elderly at Homestead Assisted living?( also owned by Midwest Healthcare) Brownell and Gaskin's hostile treatment of the elderly and Spriggs drunken refusal to report their abuse to the State nor document the staff mistreatment of the elderly is but a few of the reasons the Director of Stoneybrook Assisted Living didn't want all 3 of them working for Midwest Healthcare. Brownell and Gaskins wouldn't respect the Director's authority and went to Spriggs (she encouraged this side stepping the Director) for issues that required the Directors decisions not Spriggs decisions. So the trio transferred to Homestead before they were officially terminated. And Midwest Healthcare has allowed this?

I have had a completely different experience at Homestead than the previous reviews. I am welcomed by the staff and made to feel at home. It is evident that they truly care for and advocate for my loved one. Homestead is a small community that my mother is at home in and feels as though she gets individualized attention. I take comfort in knowing that Homestead Assisted Living is her home and she is surrounded by those she cares about and trusts. As a family member I feel as if I can finally come to visit mom at her home and not have to worry about whether she is eating, showering, taking medications etc.. I got my mother back. I am able to be her daughter and trust that the Homestead family will take care of the caregiving.

Everything mentioned in other reviews is true.

Response: You are correct to state that the staff care more for their texting and smoking breaks. Also, like Stoneybrook Assisted Living across the street cleaning isn't of the highest priority compared to the bonding between smoking staff who find many excuses not to answer resident pages in a prompt manner. The food at Stoneybrook Assisted living is no better than Homestead. Should people be able to afford it, Meadowlark offers a better staff, higher quality of food and the facility is much cleaner. They don't tolerate lazy smokers who ignore quality of life for residents.

Review of homestead assisted living. As a business owner I see upper management (local employees as the root of the problems at homestead in manhattan ks.)They have a large turnover rate of employees, terrible food very little kitchen knowledge, mold growing in hallway ceiling, very little cleaning (in residents rooms)But plenty of time for smoke breaks and text messaging.Theese are simple fixes that have to come from administration down thru ranks.Don't see any changes coming in the future. But do expect to see my yearly notice of rate increases because of the so called quality they are providing. Not disgruntled just disgusted.

Response: If an LPN who is reported to have transferred from Stoneybrook Assisted Living in September 2012 to Homestead then this facility is no safer from fraudulent charting, elder neglect and nursing misconduct than Stoneybrook Assisted Living was when she worked there for over 14 years. Both facilities -Homestead and Stoneybrook are owned by Midwest Health Management. The Vice President of Operations for Midwest Health Management has dismissed every Administrative Director for Stoneybrooks Assisted Living facility for various forms of fraud and misconduct since Stoneybrook's North Assisted Living opened in the Fall of 1997. What wasn't done also to eliminate reoccurring fraud and misconduct was to dismiss Jennifer Roggenkamp Spriggs.

This is a lovely place with very nice people. But I have to give it a 1 star. The food is not fit to eat. All three meals are awful. My family (8 of us) and several occupants and their families agree. We have talked to management several times but nothing ever gets done. Thank you.

When seeking a long-term care solution, assisted living is geared toward individuals who want to live with some level of independence but need some assistance. There are many reasons for living in an assisted living community. Research suggests that seniors who live near their peers and have a variety of social activities feel a greater sense of well-being. Assisted living provides senior-friendly housing and a caring staff. Other services you'll find include around-the-clock supervision and security, access to professional nurses, emergency call systems, help with daily living, and nutritious meals prepared by chefs. These communities typically provide linen service, housekeeping, transportation, and a calendar of social events. For seniors who can care for themselves but who want to enjoy a low-maintenance life independent living is the ideal choice. Tailored for both individuals and couples, these senior communities are also known as retirement villages, 55+ communities, and senior apartments. With independent living, residents won't have to worry about maintenance, mowing, or other chores associated with home ownership. Because independent living communities are intended for older adults who need little or no assistance, most do not offer medical care or supervision. You’ll find many social programs and community amenities, such as gardening, bridge, bingo, fitness programs, book clubs, and planned outings. Memory care offers the highest level of support, consistent memory enrichment programs, and increased security for your loved one. Memory care is different from the care provided in assisted living, requiring a staff that is trained in memory care. Residents live in private or semi-private studio homes with twenty-four-hour supervision. Three nutritious meals a day plus snacks are provided, as well as housekeeping and laundry services. Structured activities designed specifically for memory impairment bring intellectual stimulation. Communities typically have secured areas, such as walking paths and gardens, for residents to access.
