As I entered Capitol House as a visitor, I thought I was entering an extension of St. James Place. The foyer is immaculate. Queen Anne Chairs, writing desk, guest registry, directional signs, unmarked tile floors, pleasant. The sitting area, leather sofas, big screen TV, cocktail tables, more writing desk and chairs. Love birds singing in a cage. Book case with reading books. But as soon as you turn the corner to enter the nursing area, there is smell of feces and urine in the hallways coming from rooms and soiled linen containers setting in the hallways. As you continue down the main hallway, there is a woman screaming, screaming for help. No one comes. The halls are cluttered with chairs used to sit bedridden patients. Many of the residents are gathered around the nursing station. Many are very elderly, deformed from muscle lost, mouth open drueling, some seemingly not knowing where they are. Looking into the rooms you see those that are bedridden, unable to move, some seem malnourished, some just seem to be waiting for death to knock at the door. It is a pitiful sight. Tears settle. Certainly not for the soft hearted and weak stomachs. Upon observation many of the staff and nurses, cna's are there for the pay check. In some there seems to be no real care quality for the residents. Especially those that do not have family or relatives visit often. The nursing home has a rating of 1 on a 5 scale by medicare and have been sighted several times. Many of the citations are repeats from the previous years. On the last hallway are the residents that require a ventilator. Mulitiple beep and alarm alerts go off indicating respitory distress. Reapiratory agents take their time to assist. Capitol House is something to be reckoned. Before you put yur loved one there, check the ratings . Their website is not all truthful.
