I find Buckingham's Choice to be an exceptional community. When my father, who is an independent living resident there fell recently, a nurse and security responded immediately, assessed him and sent him to the emergency room due to his injuries which required stitches. The nurse who responded initially, stopped by his home to check on him after she finished her shift, just to make sure he was ok. She did this on her own time - what caring service!

Both of my parents live at Buckingham's Choice in Independent Living. They both love the community very much and have made lots of friends there. My father had hip replacement surgery in October of 2011 and came from the hospital into the nursing center at Buckingham's Choice where he received rehab and quality care. He is now back in his independent living apartment enjoying life as he has at Buckingham's Choice for the last 6 years.

The worst place on planet earth. Please don't send your loved ones here. It's terrible.

Response: Please tell me what made you write this review. My mother is at B.C. And I can't seem to get info from anyone higher than an aide. Please help with your story and thank you in advance!

Staff were great at first, but there was poor follow-through and a lack of clear, direct communication, whether orally or in writing. Decisions regarding patient welfare seemed to driven more by money than concern for patient's best interest. Not terribly impressed.

Response: Buckingham's Choice is the worst experience. Do NOT send loved ones there. It's terrible. A moneymaking operation (though they claim to be nonprofit), staffed by lowbrow idiots!

Response: We had the same experience. I would recommend Homewood over Buckingham's Choice. BC may be OK for the retirement homes, but I would not place a loved one in their nursing facility. The social worker lacked communication skills and there was a general lack of coordinated information sharing.

When my father needed more substantial help, they refused to have him stay there anymore. Since then, they have been draining his financial resources even though he is no longer a resident.

Response: Buckingham's Choice is a moneymaking operation even though they claim to be a nonprofit. The staffing, overall, is awful (nurses rolling their eyes at patient's, overweight OT's too lazy to provide therapy for rehabilitation, wrong meal delivies, etc. AWFUL, AWFUL and, again, AWFUL!

Buckingham's Choice is a nursing home. It provides medical nursing service for seniors with serious illnesses or disabilities twenty-four hours a day, delivered by registered nurses, licensed practical nurses, and certified nurse aids.

Nursing care facilities cater to several types of patients: some patients require short-term rehab while recovering from surgery; others require long-term nursing and medical supervision. In addition, some nursing homes offer specialized care programs for Alzheimer's or other illnesses, or short-term respite care for frail or disabled persons when a family member requires a rest from providing care in the home. Please note that you can help compare nursing homes by looking at the Medicare ratings of a given facility (Medicare has a 5-star rating system for comparing nursing homes). There are various ways for paying for care in a nursing home. Make sure you know your loved one's Medicare and Medicaid eligibility, and understand how you can use tools like long term care insurance to pay for nursing home care.

Also, Buckingham's Choice is an assisted living facility. Assisted living facilities are an apartment-style habitat designed to focus on providing assistance with daily living activities. They provide a higher level of service for the elderly which can include preparing meals, housekeeping, medication assistance, laundry, and also do regular check-in's on the residents. Basically, they are designed to bridge the gap between independent living and nursing home facilities. When thinking about how to pay for care, assisted living facilities are generally less expensive than nursing homes, if assisted living is a viable option for your loved one.

Also, Buckingham's Choice is a Senior Community. Senior communities are for seniors who can take care of themselves. It is often a set of apartments in a variety of sizes from studios to large two bedrooms, where seniors live independently, but may receive additional services like transportation, pools, a convenience store, bank, barber/beauty shop, resident laundry, housekeeping, and security, are all services and amenities that may be provided there.
