04/10/2015 An Interested Visitor Writes: I visited Broadmead numerous times and it was one of the best retirement communities one could find in the area. It is quite a big place and they have a lot of grounds which is not always the case with retirement communities especially in the Baltimore suburbs. There are also options for the different housing needs. The staff is very informative and always answer all my questions when I am there. This is my first choice in retirement communities!

03/04/2015 An Interested Visitor Writes: I have friends over at Broadmead Retirement Community. It is a lovely place. It is probably the most popular in Baltimore County. There are a wide variety of people who retired there. They have the activities that are comparable to other communities. Food is wonderful. Everything is very nice there.

02/15/2015 An Interested Visitor Writes: My apartment at Broadmead Retirement Community is good and spacious. It was the most spacious out of any of the retirement communities that I toured in the area so that played a huge part in my decision to move there. The other thing I like the most about them is the people. They offer transportation for the residents. We also have music, clubs, and exercise within the community. I would definitely recommend this retirement community.

01/31/2015 An Interested Visitor Writes: Broadmead Retirement Community is great! They could not be more accommodating. If we had chosen any other place, I don't think my mother would still be there. My mother is very difficult, and they have just been fantastic. They have been so understanding and many on the staff are outstanding! On a scale of 1 to 5, I give them a 6!

12/24/2014 An Interested Visitor Writes: We chose Broadmead mainly for the location and the amenities that they could offer long-term. It is a spacious community. It is also runs like a home, not like a typical retirement community. They also have activities here and the food is wonderful. I would recommend Broadmead to anyone looking to spend their later years in a safe, secure beautiful setting.

12/02/2014 An Interested Visitor Writes: Broadmead is an excellent retirement community which takes great care of their residents, at least from my personal experience. My relatives are served daily by nurses, doctors, culinary staff, cleaning staff and security in an operation which appears to pride itself on comprehensive coverage for its residents based on their needs. The community itself is very clean and well taken care of, and there are options for recreation, religious practice, social interaction and other activities which seem to keep my family satisfied.

11/20/2014 An Interested Visitor Writes: Broadmead is without a doubt the best retirement community in Baltimore County, if not throughout Maryland. The staffs dedication to the residents there is endless. If you're looking for this type of dedication and care for a loved one this community should be at the top of your list.

Activities are plentiful, and I join him for dinner some evenings. the food is very good, and they pay great attention to diabetic diets. 09/29/2014 An Interested Visitor Writes: I was impressed with Broadmead. After touring many retirement communities in the Towson and Timonium area I decided on Broadmead because it is a safe and beautiful setting. One of the other communities I toured was very close to the mall in Towson and I know that is not a safe area. The other communities were in good safe areas but I also knew a lot more people at Broadmead so I felt I would be more comfortable there.

07/13/2014 An Interested Visitor Writes: My mother spent the last 4 years of her life at the Broadmead Retirement Community; beginning in Independent living moving through all stages of the center as her abilities aged. She was always treated with dignity and encouraged to participate in the many varied activities available within the community. I feel that she was cared for by a staff that not only looked after her physical needs, but her emotional and mental needs as well. She felt blessed to feel safe and we both appreciated the many people she came in contact with daily from the housekeepers to the nurses - all were very helpful and understanding of her needs - and mine!

06/23/2014 An Interested Visitor Writes: I'll be honest, when they told me where my Grandmother was living, I was not at all expecting what I saw. I think I had it in my head that every "old folks home" was some depressing building with 70's decor and a clinic-vibe. Broadmead is not that AT ALL, it is so nice! Seriously, I think her place is nicer than mine. She's got a beautiful apartment with a view that is gorgeous. Each floor has a nice lounge, hang-out area where residents can socialize, I know my Grandmother has already made a few good friends. What really tripped me out is that there is basically a really nice restaurant right in the building. I've brought my kids a couple times and ate dinner with her there, it's great! Most importantly, she's really happy there. Everyone on staff that I met was fantastic, it really makes it easy to know she's there and has whatever she needs, 24-7. Absolutely two thumbs up, I would recommend Broadmead highly.

05/12/2014 An Interested Visitor Writes: I cannot tell you enough how every aspect of Broadmead Retirement Community has been stellar. From the staff, to the food, to the cleanliness Broadmead deserves an A-plus. Everyone is so helpful and always wears a smile. Every resident is called by first name from day 1. Family is always welcome and treated so well. They take care of every detail for the residents and try so very hard to keep everyone happy. I wish this was more of a questionnaire, it has such limited space and I would love to name some names of the staff. Trying to tend to all the details they do is a tremendous job. There is never a grumpy staff member. The food is almost perfect. It has been pleasurable to dine at Broadmead no matter when I have been there to eat. Thanks for listening, we could not have found a more perfect spot for my mother. She left her home that she has lived in for 41 years, and she has never looked back. She has been so happy to be so busy. She can be as busy as she feels like every day, and the wonderful girlfriends she has met does indeed give her the will to live a longer life. She is 91 years young, and I thank Broadmead for all they do for her.

04/11/2014 An Interested Visitor Writes: We are happy with Broadmead Retirement Community, mom is really acclimating well. I know what's out there, I've seen a lot of retirement communities in the area, and this is head and shoulders above the rest. They are very compassionate, very caring. They've got some nice talent coming in, and things to do. The food is a five, the dining room is really nice and she really enjoys going there. The staff and residents have been so nice, they are attentive to the residents and the communication is good between the staff and residents. The community itself is just beautiful and has great grounds that mom likes to take walks on.

They offer everything, easy walking out with friends and biking. The surrounding scenery is beautiful. If you had an active life before you came to Broadmead, you will definitely continue it. You have to get out and do things. I saw that everyone seems to get involved in something. You can see a smile on everyone's face. It looks like they are well taken care of. 11/19/2013 An Interested Visitor Writes: I have been a resident of Broadmead Retirement Community for the past two years and am glad that I made the move. Being in my early seventies when I moved in, the home that I had lived in for almost forty years became too large for me to handle. It was a chore to keep the house functioning and my wife and I made the decision to downsize. Broadmead offers us the ability to live independently while still providing a safety net that we need. It is great not to have to worry about things breaking in the apartment, having to cut the grass or best of all not to have to shovel the snow. All of the things that I was struggling to keep up with in my home are now easy to get done. I also have use of all of the facilities that I used to have to have a gym membership for. I am thoroughly enjoying the decision that I made with my wife to move to this safe and scenic location.

My mother requires comprehensive medical care and did not want to leave the state of Maryland, so I was left in a bind. Upon visiting Broadmead Retirement Community, I found myself relieved, they offered on site nurses, community activities and spacious living conditions. My mother was above and beyond pleased with the facility. I have referred many patients to the facility since the passing of my mother, yet I still keep in touch with the wonderful staff whom accompanied her in her last days.

09/25/2013 An Interested Visitor Writes: My father-in-law became a resident of Broadmead in 2009. He entered as a resident in the independent living retirement section and was eventually moved into the nursing area. The staff at Broadmead were always helpful and respectful of my father-in-law's wishes, and helped us with the many questions and details that come when you are the child of an aging parent. The facilities were always clean. Numerous relaxation areas were available for my father-in-law including a private library, lounges, and a recreation room with games and a large-screen television. Religious services were provided, and my father-in-law was able to take part in events like poetry readings. When my father-in-law was failing they were always attentive to his medical needs, and alerted us immediately if he needed our attention. The quality of service provided was always excellent and we were more than satisfied.

07/09/2013 An Current/Past Resident Writes: Love it here!
I feel like I am on vacation all year long. I enjoy the sense of community and the people I have met since I have moved to Broadmead. I knew Broadmead's reputation and didn't even consider other communities when it came to looking for a retirement community.

06/27/2013 An Current/Past Resident Writes: My husband and I found Braodmead Retirement Community to be a wonderful, wonderful place to live. There are so many activities to enjoy daily. My husband plays bridge and I play a lot of mahjong. We have tons of things we can do together. We have our own restaurants, theatre, etc. It is not as big as some communities, but we do have a good mix of residents.
The apartment homes are nice and are in several price ranges. The very best thing is the folks you meet. There is a saying here that it doesn't matter who you were or what you did before, here everyone is in the same boat. It's true. We all love life and want to enjoy our remaining years in an active, mentally stimulating atmosphere, with fun loving people.
Broadmead is absolutely beautiful and extremely well cared for.
My best suggestion would be to check out their website and take a look. I am so happy we are here. It was the very best decision we could have made.

06/02/2013 An OurParents User Writes: We are very happy with life at Broadmead! Not only is the location ideal, but our apartment is one of the largest ones that any retirement community in the area could offer for the price. The staff is pleasant, concerned and compassionate and fellow residents are friendly and warm. Broadmead provides transportation with reliable drivers, all the upkeep we no longer wish to do as well as many opportunities to lead an active lifestyle. We have been very happy here for the past 3 years.

04/24/2013 An Family Member of Current/Past Resident Writes: Broadmead is a wonderful and caring retirement living. My mother moved to Broadmead 3 years ago. She has found living there a most happy experience. The knowledgable and caring staff is the main reason, along with a clean and well-cared for facility, lovely grounds, very good food and the many activities offered the residents. The staff is always interested, responsive, and very caring and careful to meet the needs of the residents and their families. We highly recommend Broadmead.

03/05/2013 An Interested Visitor Writes: My husband and I toured many communities in the area and we absolutely loved Broadmead. We liked it much better than the others and they are also financially in great shape unlike some other places in the area.

    Response: Or Broadmead's.

Response: Ditto. Apparently Edenwald filters all negative reviews about their facilty.

02/07/2013 An Family Member of Current/Past Resident Writes: I guess you cant trust any review here.

01/31/2013 An Interested Visitor Writes: I also noticed that Edenwald keeps having any negative reviews removed from this site as well as others. Makes me wonder what they have to hide.

01/07/2013 An Current/Past Resident Writes: Broadmead is FANTASTIC!! How do I know? Because I live there. As for the food, great (not just "good") food is my "thing". The food is GREAT! They admission staff is very professional and extremely helpful during our transition. If you want to know what Broadmead is like, ask those who live there. I am glad we gave our decision a lot of thought because my sister used to live at Edenwald and they give their residents those little call buttons to wear around their necks - then if they ever push the button, no one comes! They are perpetually understaffed and if you have any family members living there you should know they also have thieves on staff. I was visiting my sister who was in their nursing wing. The nurse's aide was in the room alone for just a moment because the other aide went to get some ointment for my sister's diaper rash (they clearly weren't changing her often enough, either). She lifted my entire credit card wallet out of my purse, which was on the chair for just a minute while I went to the restroom. I know it was her because she tried to use my stolen cc the next morning at the gas station a few blocks from Edenwald. The management did absolutely nothing about it, either. If she managed that while I was visiting for just an hour, I wonder what she does to the poor unsuspecting residents who live there? Don't put your family members in Edenwald. There are many other better options with competent, caring staff.

Response: It is no wonder Edenwald continuously has this site and a few others remove any negative reviews. Makes me wonder what they have to hide.

10/26/2012 An Current/Past Employee Writes: I have been employed for almost 30 years at Broadmead and find it a very nice place to work, otherwise, I wouldn't have stayed so long.

Response: The staff of Broadmead Retirement Community are absolutely wonderful. I obtained a position in California, forcing me to relocate with my sick mother. My mother requires comprehensive medical care and did not want to leave the state of Maryland, so I was left in a bind. 01/11/2011 An Family Member of Current/Past Resident Writes: My father suffers from cancer and we are told that he may have only a few months (at best) remaining. He is currently at home and my mother is his primary caregiver.

We learned of 'respite' care from our hospice and began to look for the best place for Dad to visit and potentially stay long term, when the time comes.

Since my parents live in the Sparks area, Broadmead was a natural choice. Unfortunately, I found Broadmead to be unresponsive to requests: I called directly and was transfered to a nurse, who advised that Broadmead does not 'allow' respite care but that she would have her supervisor return my call. After a few days, I reached out via the Our Parent website to see if I could obtain a response via that avenue. Meanwhile, I called again and left a message in HR, which was where I was transfered this time. Several days later, someone did return my call and advised me that Broadmead didn't know what to do with my request, so no one addressed it. Apparently, our request did not fall into a specific catagory (such as retirement, etc.). While very nice, the person that I spoke to referred me to my hospice provider to research 'other facilities'. I found that I needed to be very adament about wanting to place my father at Broadmead and was then advised that no beds were available. I asked that we be notified when one was and was told to call back in a few weeks time to check on availability.

I understand that my need is not urgent at this moment, but there will come a time when it is and I now question if Broadmead has the necessary responsiveness to handle final stages patients. And their families.

Broadmead is a nursing home. It provides medical nursing service for seniors with serious illnesses or disabilities twenty-four hours a day, delivered by registered nurses, licensed practical nurses, and certified nurse aids.

Nursing care facilities cater to several types of patients: some patients require short-term rehab while recovering from surgery; others require long-term nursing and medical supervision. In addition, some nursing homes offer specialized care programs for Alzheimer's or other illnesses, or short-term respite care for frail or disabled persons when a family member requires a rest from providing care in the home. Please note that you can help compare nursing homes by looking at the Medicare ratings of a given facility (Medicare has a 5-star rating system for comparing nursing homes). There are various ways for paying for care in a nursing home. Make sure you know your loved one's Medicare and Medicaid eligibility, and understand how you can use tools like long term care insurance to pay for nursing home care.

Also, Broadmead is an assisted living facility. Assisted living facilities are an apartment-style habitat designed to focus on providing assistance with daily living activities. They provide a higher level of service for the elderly which can include preparing meals, housekeeping, medication assistance, laundry, and also do regular check-in's on the residents. Basically, they are designed to bridge the gap between independent living and nursing home facilities. When thinking about how to pay for care, assisted living facilities are generally less expensive than nursing homes, if assisted living is a viable option for your loved one.

Also, Broadmead is a Senior Community. Senior communities are for seniors who can take care of themselves. It is often a set of apartments in a variety of sizes from studios to large two bedrooms, where seniors live independently, but may receive additional services like transportation, pools, a convenience store, bank, barber/beauty shop, resident laundry, housekeeping, and security, are all services and amenities that may be provided there.
