Mother was not given insulin 2 hours after they checked her glucose, I had to ask for it. Did not have a shower until 6th day there, which I also had to ask for. Rang nurse buzzer at 3.am for Tylenol for pain, 45 min later no nurse still. Mother had to get up to find someone, what she found were 2 employees sleeping. Met with dietician 2 times about mothers diet , on day 10 they were still giving her good she was not allowed. Broke hippa law. She ran out of a medicine she is on 5 days early. insurance would not pay for a new persecution because she should have had enough, which means 5 pills disappeared. We were continously lied to by staff. We were told this is not the" norm". But everything with her care went wrong! Walked into her room at 2.30 in afternoon and it had an over whelming smell of urine coming from roommates who has a catheter bed. Windows were closed and roommate not there. I did ask an aide to change the bed and she did, and opened one of windows (second was broken). As for guest parking, I had to park across the street at the Cvs at least 4 times because employees park in guest spots even though it clearly states they cant. I know this because on 2 occasions I was there at shift change and saw it, I asked one aide if she was supposed to park there and was rudely told "yes". Mother was supposed to be there for 30 days, but when we couldn't get her meds given when supposed to, couldn't get her diet straightened out ( she needed insulin 4 times in 12 days there, and hasn't needed it at home for over a year. All because of the food they kept giving her) We took her home on day 12. My biggest issue was being lied to constantly by staff to cover their own butts. Did not care about patient, just yessed us to death and nothing changed. Do not bring family members here! Mother went home with large wound on foot. Now seeing wound specialist.

Our Brother has been in Avery almost 2 years and we have had many issues, he was unable to breathe and instead of sitting him up the nurse or CNA not sure which she is put his bed flat and they refused to call 911 until my Brother in law had to threaten to call himself. Many other issues with meds not being stopped before surgery. He has some Mental Health issues as well as health issues and he has not gotten the help he needs for this. He is 57 years old and alert, he called me crying the other day when one of the physical therapists kicked him out of physical therapy because he is not making progress , this is not the first time we have had an issue with this therapist and I called the supervisor and never got a call back of course. They are very quick to scold you and tell you that you are wrong and things are not what they seem but we are trying to move him elsewhere so that he can get the care he needs and come home. Also many, many issues with the financial person, she double bills us and is not very helpful. I would never recommend this facility to anyone. I looked very hard before choosing Avery and I wish I had checked more thorough before placing him there.

DO NOT BRING LOVED ONES TO THIS LOCATION! MY parents went to Avery "temporarily" while we looked for alternative assisted living for them. Within a week both had the flu. All of the clothes and personal items that they arrive with disappeared. My mother was left dehydrated, with the flu, pneumonia, an extremely high fever and her heart rate off the charts, But No Staff noticed this! We had to call 911 from her room for an ambulance to get her to a hospital! A week later and she is still in the ICU…My father wasn’t treated any better…It is truly a disgrace the way they treat their patients. They just count on children/families not caring enough to visit and see how mismanaged this dump is... :-(

Avery Manor is an average sized, for profit, nursing home with 142 beds based in Needham, MA. At last check, the facility had 126 residents indicating that it is 89% occupied which is about average within the state of Massachusetts. The provider accepts both medicare and medicaid programs, and provides resident counseling services.
This nursing home and assisted living facility, is not located in a hospital or a continuing care retirement community (CCRC). As of November 2012, the medicare rating for Avery Manor, was 4 stars, which is a better rating than 76% of nursing homes in Massachusetts.
We have compared the detailed Medicare data for Avery Manor with other senior care providers in Massachusetts. I think if you're 40 years old and need rehab for an orthopedic issue, it would be fine. However, if you are a geriatric patient and require skilled nursing, this may not be the place for you. We had a terrible experience there - initially from inattentive nurses to nurses who fell on deaf ears. The family had to push for all care. We had a "diagnosis" from a physical therapist - unheard of. I can not conscionably recommend this facility
