Our commitment to the highest level of personal care shows in everything we do--from filling rooms with fresh flowers to celebrating the seasons, to serving a surprise birthday cake. The warm welcoming atmosphere at the Bertram House leads  to friendships that last a lifetime. Equally important, families know we are here to offer a helping hand, words of encouragement, and gentle reminders.

"The philosophy behind the Bertram House has existed since1877 when John Bertram, a merchant and philathropist from neaby Salem, Massachusetts, opened a home for retired seamen who had no one to care for them. The home he created in Salem eventually evolved to the Bertram House for Aged Men and ultimately, in 1990, became the first freestanding Assisted Living community in the Commonwealth of Massachsetts.

In 1997, The John Bertram House Board of Trustees, a non-sectarian, not-for-profit charitable trust, opened the Bertram House of Swampscott in response to the growing demand for top quality Assised Living. Our community is managedby Sunrise Senior Living."
