My grandmother. who had private insurance, was in Boulevard Temple for a month after an extreme episode caused by congestive heart failure. I live in NYC, and was so appalled by this facility that I flew in to visit her every single week. Most residents were left in their wheelchairs to stare into space, while the staff blared ghetto rap from portable radios.

My grandmother played the piano, and there was a piano on the ground floor, but no one offered to take her there, or do anything to make any of the residents happy. Whenever I asked for directions to the bathroom, or a clean towel, I was given the rolling eye treatment. I worried for her, because if they thought that there was no one who would care, god knows what could have happened. The nurses were fine, but only breeze in and breeze out; frankly I think they were embarrassed.

The staff consisted of desperate "aides" and ex-convict-looking scary orderlies. And the patients were not welfare cases - they were middle-class people, who owned homes and businesses, but somehow ended up alone and in need of care.

My grandmother died in her house - thank God she didn't have to die there.

Some good nursing staff, but mostly digruntal nurses. Patients are treated poor to fair. If it is pay day, good luck with some nursing staff showing up. Not a bad looking facility, but is in a questionable area. I saw that some rooms have been remodled, but still lots of old fashioned crank beds. Cranked beds a poor for ergonomics of staff, and unfortunate for patients who are use to shifting a little. Therapy department is well loved by the patients. Most patient's are happy to see and do therapy for it occupies time and increases independence. This facility is like most places I have seen thus far that are in the city.
