06/29/2013 An Family Member of Current/Past Resident Writes: We just had a parent stay at the Heartland and noticed a huge change in over all are from 1 1/2 years ago. Communication between the staff needs to be greatly improved upon and the although some of the staff were very professional, caring, and attentive it did not make up for the poor responsive care from other staff members including the manager. The cleanliness and apparent lingering smell needs improvements.
We did not have an official "check in" to talk about the goals and care that is needed from the day we arrived. A "family meeting" was set up but no one was notified in our family which made us upset.
More importantly, they didn't seem to follow the request from the doctors on what my fathers needs were at the time he was discharged from the hospital and then brought right into the short term care facilities. Our family members had to repeatedly ask for medication and our questions were not answered Ina timely manner. There was very poor follow through.
The PT staff was a positive experience and we were impressed with them and they were very responsive to my fathers needs. If the whole staff there functioned lit the PT staff we believe the patients would have a much better experience.
We do want to say that there were many hard working folks there that should be given tons of credit for what they do as it seems that do put the patient first. I hope that in the future the other staff members would improve on how information is passed from one nurse to the next so that the family members do not have to feel that they have to follow up on our request.

06/02/2013 An OurParents User Writes: A person is usually there because of a need. Please have more compassion in dealing with their needs, if you think they are petty requests please remember why that person is in your care.YOU get to go home at the end of the day, that person CAN'T they need you please don't destroy a trust that is needed in your work. COMPASSION and UNDERSTANDING is needed in this line of work.
