Apparently, their reputation caught up to them so they sold the business. I hope the new owners are better at care than bortz. and that the owners of bortz end up in a crappy facility like so many ended up in theirs. I'll never forget what they did to my Mother.

I'm actually a current employee of Bortz, obviously I will remain anonymous because I would like to keep my job until I find another one at this time. and I feel as though these patients need one employee that actually cares for them. Worst management I have ever seen by far. Just recently a resident was caught stealing pills from another resident, management then proceeded to actually have more narcotics and pain meds ordered for this patient instead of addressing the situation like a responsible patient advocate. The staff members are great and most are very compassionate but the management and demands they are out under definitely affect patient care. The kitchen staff is allowed to yell and disrespect residents on a daily basis, with management well aware of what happens. Most employees are seeking employment elsewhere. And administrator Janet is very good at manipulation. Charts are altered and rewritten, pages disappear in order for her to keep her stars in the place. Good management starts at the top, and Janet is not fit for running a nursing home or probably even her own home at that, which is evidenced by the fact that often when staff calls her with concerns she is completely drunk. There must be definite reason why the DON position has been held by so many individuals. I wouldn't put my own family member in this facility if I was paid a million dollars, I wouldn't even put my dog in here.

Bortz gets a zero from me. Thanks to my sister and the management at Bortz, my Mother has suffered unnecessarily and has been sentenced to a slow death in the confines of their facility. She was drugged from day one with anti-pyschotic medications to silence her and then through the court system they silenced me by stepping in the way of me getting guardianship. Beware of the smiles that they wear, it is only a front for the deception that lies beneath. It's an awful place. I hope the owners and the management reap in spades what they have sown to my Mother and any other unsuspecting souls that ended up in their so called care.

I have found the staff to very attentive to my loved one. She is very fond of her caregivers and nurses and calls Bortz her home. The staff always respond to my concerns in a timely manner and I have yet to hear about a meal she didn't like. I would recommend this facility to anyone wishing to place their loved one in a loving and caring atmosphere.

Bortz is disgusting and so are the staff. My grandmother went from an active senior citizen to a doped-up, wheelchair bound person in a matter of 1-2 months! She developed bedsores way too quickly and was in and out of the nursing home and hospital with all kinds of infections. I actually had a friend of a friend, who currently (Jan. 2011) works there during the third shift, admit that she actually wants respect from the patients! Puhlease!!! These poor people (the patients) don't even know who they are or where they're at and she demands respect from them??!! She actually said that after asking a patient to do something, and they didn't respond or comply, that she didn't care, she didn't have to clean up after them! Are you kidding?? That is her job!! I don't get respect from clients in the financial industry yet I still have to do my job and send them their money! She, along with most of these so-called care-takers, need to be fired or properly trained AND held accountable for their actions. The supervisors, managers, and directors need to know what is going on and take proper action. BORTZ IS DISGUSTING! DO NOT SEND YOUR LOVED ONES HERE! Unfortunately my grandmother passed this week. That is less than 4 months from the time she was admitted.

Response: Apparently the standards for Medicare are low. In comparison to other nursing homes in Michigan? Please, we are speaking of human beings here, not animals. Raise the standards to 5 Stars for all, or pull the Medicare dollars. Oh, and stop doping the patients with drugs that are black boxed by the FDA and paid for by Medicare. It is disgusting what is happening to the elderly under the auspice of "care" paid by the American taxpayer.

Response: This review was meant for the Medicare posting. But, I do agree 100% with this poster. If you love your family member do not take them to Bortz, it's all about the bottom line and not about the patient. It's an awful place.

i've been to this nursing home... and my word of advise is if you have a love one that you need in a nursing facility... GET AS FAR AWAY FROM HERE AS YOU CAN... they dont care about their residents no matter what they tell you. the rooms do not get cleaned properly the residents will sometimes stay in there rooms all day long because the aids do not feel like getting them up.. if they have to go to the bathroom they have to wait until the cnas or nurses feel like helping them. this is one of the worse nursing homes i have ever seen DONT GO THERE
