I have met some of the most dedicated staff that truly cares for their patients and family! Of course that one unconcerned always stands out! Cleanliness could be improved but as a whole if you mention it they do hear and listen which is extremely important in the care of your loved one! I am so appreciative of those that really care! Thank you to all those that give their love and care to those who can't take care of themselves! Hopefully the care will only improve and not change the longer a patient is there!

Our mother stayed at Rivergate for three months. We were well pleased with the care that she received from every staff member: nurses, aides, food service, including occupational and physical therapists. They knew the patients' names and their likes/dislikes. All staff members were very kind, treating the patients as if they were their own family.

The therapy was ok, very nice therapists. The medical care lacked. Several times when I visited, my mom had to use the bathroom. We pushed the button for the nurse and it was 30-40 minutes before they would come. One excuse was they were serving dinner and she would have to wait, other times, they just didn’t show up for awhile. She was there for rehab and if they’re trying to get someone ready to go home, I think you would encourage them to use the bathroom and not a bedpan, the other solution when we rang for the nurse. She wasn’t happy about being in rehab and wanted to go home. It seemed to me that the facility considered a “problem” patient because she didn’t just do what they said and they told my son I was difficult because I questioned what and why they did things and just didn’t take what they said. They were good on giving medicine - NOT. She doesn’t sleep well at night, so they put her on anti-depressants. They said she had high blood pressure, and had her on medicine. Well, turns out that only her systolic number was high. Her diastolic number was normal. A result of being on medicine that lowers both number means that you become light headed, dizzy. Well, that just made her loopy and still didn’t sleep. After bringing her home, the first day she fell and broke her shoulder. A new visiting home physician took her off the BP medicine and she attitude improved greatly. He said that being on the BP medicine could have contributed to her fall. Facility was very clean. Food was not good, my mom hardly wanted to eat - we had to bring in outside food to get her to eat.

This place was good back in 2007, but it got worse over time. The food is inedible, and my mother's care was rushed. She wasn't ready to go back home and wound up back in the hospital again.

My great aunt was there. She had her own teeth but the only time she was brought a toothbrush to use was when we visited her. She developed bed sores and had to pay for a special air mattress because she wasn't turned often enough.
