My Dad has been at Shelby Manor for the past 2 years going on 3 and he is very well taken care of. They do not over medicate patients and always raise concern with family and the in house Doctor if something does not seem right medication or any physical concerns. The food they prepare all residents is wonderful and I often wish I were having meals with them. The facility is always CLEAN and NEVER SMELLS which is very important to me. The patients are never dirty and always have clean clothes on. No place is perfect and sometimes they have to be stern with patients only to protect them and never in a abusive way. I am sure negative comment came from now X-employees who did not like there jobs. My advice to those thinking of placing a loved one there is to try it go visit monitor what you see and if you do not like it find another place. I would not pass judgment until you try it out. I am very happy and can sleep peacefully knowing my Dad is in good hands.

I am stunned by the negative reviews! My mother has lived at Danny and Sue's clean, caring, wonderful home for over 4 years and could not be happier. I transferred her from a "franchised" private pay facility because she was being over-medicated and neglected...not to mention the ever-increasing, prohibitively expensive rent they demanded. For the past four+ years, my mom has been the healthiest and happiest I have seen her in over a decade (she's 91). I just cannot say enough wonderful things about the Wheatlys - I think they are the greatest. (and NO, I was not paid by anyone to say this - its all straight from my heart.)

Response: Perhaps a refresher course in English and Grammar might be a good idea. (and I find your criticism of these people baseless) 'Nuff said.

Response: (the above response is directed to the Mar. 13 entry listed below...)

Response: Why is this not a good Group Home do they abuse the people in there or disrespect them? They indicated they have no special precautions for Oldtimers people who wander.

Response: Please be more specific on what you did not like about Shelby Manor because I am considering it for my elderly mother, also how would contact the state Licensing Bureau, does anyone know?

Response: Why is Danny a bad man? What have the violations been?

I had my mother at Shelby Manor which I thought was a good facility, however, I learned differently after a very bad experience there. I would NOT recommend this facility for your loved one. I suggest checking with the Michigan Licensing Bureau when placing your loved one in someone elses care.

Response: What was the bad experience? I'm thinking about placing my mother here and would appreciate a little more detail. Thank you.

Dan & Sue Wheatley run a wonderful caring, safe home. My mother is currently a resident there and I am very pleased with the care she is receiving. I love that the patients are brought into the livng room area each day. They are cared for in a "home like" setting. Each resident is treated with respect and dignity.

Response: someone must have paid you to write this or danny and sue wrote it. this place is terrible and the owners should be put in jail for elder abuse. please check out the facilities where your family is living and check with the state. have you read the reports on them with the state??? obviously, NOT!!!!!!

Response: shame on you. what? did you get fired because you weren't doing your job? that would be my guess. My mother has been in 4 different facilities over the last 10 years and Shelby Manor is BY FAR the best one...they are wonderful, caring people.

Shelby Manor is one of the worst places you can take your family to live. The owners are very disrespectful towards staff and residents. Name calling, yelling, etc.

I would never bring any of my family to live in such a poor environment.
