Dear Cherrywood Executive Staff,
You cared for my mother from August 2016 to this past December 2017. I am very happy to share my experiences of her time with you at Cherrywood.

Your facility has an extremely well designed physical layout. Because the building is built in a circle, I could take my mom on walks throughout the different units. Plus my mother enjoyed sitting outside in warm weather in the central courtyard. She also liked watching the birds in the aviary. As a visitor, I noticed that housekeeping was busy keeping the units, the dining rooms and the individual rooms clean and fresh. Nice extras like ice cream cones on Wednesdays and fresh hot coffee and cookies in the lobby made a person feel welcome. My mom was lactose intolerant so the snack shop stocked lactose free ice cream for her. My mother especially enjoyed the trips to the onsite beauty shop for a wash, set and style.

The St. Clair unit is where my mom lived. When I came in to visit on weekdays, the secretary was present to greet me and answer my questions. I very much appreciated Susanna Humphrey, the charge nurse. In person or via phone conversations, she was very kind and always up to date about how my mom was feeling and doing. Susanna was willing to involve the physician, therapies, and other interdisciplinary staff to help solve or prevent problems. I knew that the entire nursing staff knew my mom, her preferences, and how to keep her safe. I never had the experience of a nurse saying “Oh, I am agency staff, so I do not know your mother”. When I visited on weekends, there was a RN present who also was knowledgeable about my mom. If I had a question or concern about my mother’s status, I only had to express it and nursing service took care of it and then let me know how it was addressed.

The certified nursing assistants were so helpful as well. When my mom required use of the toilet, they responded quickly to this vital need. If I wanted to take my mom out for a drive or to a doctor’s appointment, they made sure she was ready to go and helped me transfer her safely to my car.

Because I live out of state, the quarterly care plan meetings were handled by phone conferencing. This was very accommodating. In fact, I had many phone contacts with the professional staff. The social workers, Mary from the business office, the physical therapists, the speech therapists, the nurse practitioners, the dietitian, and eventually, the hospice nurses all called and spent phone time with me. I was impressed to know about the care which they were providing and my mother’s current status. These phone conversations were much appreciated.

I complement your staff for their pro-active care of my mother. As she was declining, all the appropriate therapies were employed. My mother experienced the model holistic care. She had numerous interventions to keep her safe, nourished, clean, well dressed, and involved in the community of the facility. I can only say thank you for doing your jobs with such kindness, compassion and dedication to these high professional standards.

Sincerely,
Catherine

My father was there for hospice care, it was so bad we pulled him out to another facility. He died several days later with dignity. I wouldn't put a dog in this facility!

This facility is modern and well-kept. Birds and fish placed in hallway create a pleasant environment for residents and their visitors. Unfortunately, this appears to be where a majority of their money is spent. This is probably a fine place for ambulatory residents, but those requiring nursing care would be better off elsewhere. My mother was so neglected at Cherrywood that she ended up hospitalized several times over a period of only a few months. She is in a new facility now, doing things the Cherrywood staff told us she could not. They simply did not want to be bothered to assist her.

Response: I see that the review was posted in March 2011, but I must be in a different Cherrywood, because it's not like that anymore. I have been here almost 4 years (because of my particular problems)and I would not be any where else. They take of all my needs as long as they are moral and legal. If you are looking for perfect people then you are living in the wrong time in history because the only perfect person that walked the earth was our Lord Jesus Christ. I have all my life tried to emulate(I'm 83)Him, but I haven't made it yet. Recently someone asked me "if you could anywhere right now, where would that be? That's easy..."I would like to be with my sweetheart Wife and our Lord in Heaven". Next question,,,,Where would the 2nd place be, that's easy too "right here at Cherrywood". Cherrywood is cleaner than clean, come in and check the odor of Urine (THERE ISN'T ODOR OF URINE! I've checked other facilities and the odor of Urine is stifling. The food....Ah" that's one of my hobbies, only 2 people made better soup than the Cherrywood cooks, and that was my sweetheart Wife and my Mother. The entree's are probably equal to a A- or a B+ restaurant, the desserts are Delicious, I was told at my last review meeting that I was gaining weight ( we are weighed the first of every month) How can I lose weight when I'm in a wheel chair, I used to be very active. The answer was eat less, don't take 2 helpings of everything, you have to eat to live, not live to eat. Our bedding's are changed every time we have a shower, which is once or twice a week. I could go on forever, but I think you get the idea.
One more thing...This is not a paid for commercial, this is from my heart!
