we had an elderly relative at the abby who declined after being there. This facility HEAVILY drugs those with any dementia and the dr assigned to this facility is horrible as is the director.. The aides and nurses were kind but followed the dr orders to heavily drug our relative... She went in on 2 drugs and was quickly on 10 additional drugs - most of which were sleeping drugs or sedatives... the dr keeps them so drugged that they can barely eat their meals. We found that most of these elderly patients with dementia had almost no visits from relatives so no one knows they are doing this.. We had to find another home.

This place was is HORRIBLE! We put my Grandmother here after a back injury bc it was close to all her family and we could visit her once or twice a day. It didn't look overly nice, but we figured it was clean, the staff seemed ok, and it was only for a couple of weeks, while she recieved in patient therapy. When she went in she was a normal functioning 76 year old, living o afn her own, handling her own finiances etc. After 3 weeks we noticed a rapid decline, she wasnt herself at all, she started making no sense, was paranoid, not able to even able to sit up. We kept telling the staff something was wrong, they kept argueing with us. Finally after 2 weeks of begging them to do testing (and them scheduling test for 3 and 4 weeks out) we had her forceably removed (they literally stood im front of her bed with the awful.RN telling us we were overeacting), and had her taken to the ER. There we found out she had a VERY bad infection, that had been overlooked. It had gone to.her brain. She is now completely bedridden, she lays there drooling on herself and not able to talk. She is obviously at a new facility....which is wonderful. The aids RNs, social workers at Abbeys are incompetent, and rude. Please look around at numerous places before choosing a nursing home for your loved one. We made a huge mistake, by not doing this, if we would have looked around I think we would have immediately seen how horribly this place compared.
