The Villages of Mora has been a godsend to our family. When my mom first started suffering from dementia, she was adamant that she did not want to live with a child, so we looked at other options. The staff at the hospital that first diagnosed her dementia had given us a book with all sorts of assisted living facilities in it...their amenities and their prices.....and the Villages was not in that book. Luckily we checked it out, because it was the most inexpensive one yet, and that is great!

All the "usual" assisted living services are provided. For a "flat" fee of around $2000/month a person has a 1 bedroom apartment, with the heat/electric paid, as well as free cable TV. The facility is all one level and the apartments all have a little patio outside. Some residents have a pet. The apartments are older ('80s) but the maintenance crew are on the ball. The outside could use a little better upkeep, but looks aren't everything! Each resident has a call pendant to call the aides whenever they need assistance. Housekeeping is provided, too, as well as transportation to appointments. Breakfast is brought to the apartment, and a LARGE lunch is served in the dining room. Many residents elect to make their own suppers (supper is not provided in the basic package) but for a small fee a light supper is provided in the dining room, too.

The activities are a little lax. There are some music programs, and bingo, and residents can go into town to go shopping, but other than that, they're on their own for entertainment.

The staff are so kind and so concerned. I feel like they really care about my mom...although sometimes there seems to be a lack of communication between shifts or between the nursing staff and the aides, they are usually very in tune with what is going on. I have never seen an aide be impatient or cross with a resident.

The Villages gives our family great peace of mind.
