I would never recommend the Memory Care Unit at Bethesda Meadow to anyone!! My husband's 5 month stay at this facility was the worst experience of his life and of our whole family's life as well. I believe I could accept much easier his death if I did not have to remember the miserable 5 months that ended his life. His individual rights were ignored to please other residents. He may have looked like he was more well than the others, but he had dementia and deserved the same considerations as everyone else. For example, to have been able to enjoy visits from his loved ones without having to stay in his room with the door shut, which by the way did no good because another resident was constantly allowed to interrupt those visits and upset my husband and myself. We happen to be a family who visited everyday and for long periods of time because we wanted him to know we were always close by but were constantly told we could take him out of the unit to visit and we didn't want to do that. We wanted to help him adjust to his new environment with us near him. We were constantly threatened by another resident and one of our family members was actually hit by another resident with no consequences. These things upset my husband very badly. It was a very bad experience.

Response: You may consider revisiting Bethesda Meadow now, as in the past 8 months the administration has completely changed and there are now more qualified and caring people in place. The Joint Commission highly commended our facility in November and gave our Rehab department the top certification. We also just completed our annual State Survey and I am pleased to say it was phenomenal for a facility this size with 3 small citations compared to 7-11 on average for a facility the same size. Easy to judge a place when an emotional trainwreck due to dealing with family issues but slandering the hard work and dedication of employees here is ignorant and sub par on a human level.

My Father has been living here for over five years and I am very pleased. The management from the New Administrator on down to the Director and Asst. Directors of Nursing, the Supervisors, and Nurse Managers on each floor are all excellent. I really like the Nurses and the CNA's there are dedicated and caring. You may be hard pressed to find a facility that combines great personnel with excellent care. You are listened to when you have a concern or even complaint and action is prompt. From the time you walk in the door, the receptionists are friendly and helpful to the great food and dietary dept. Other services such as physical and speech therapy are available and the activity aides stay busy helping residents all day. At the present time, I would highly recommend a tour of this facility and you will see a happy, helpful community. Thanks for reading this.

April 2013 State of Mo wrote 85 page deficiency report. Advise caution and continual vigilence as current attempts to "fix" problems may not last beyond a few months. If committing to permanent placement and not private pay, consider another facility and choose one that holds beds for "current residents" who may need to go on Medicaid.

    Response: Totally agree!

Stay away at all costs. If you value your loved ones' lives, you will find a better place for them. The staff neglects patients. Patients are served sub-quality food. Patients in distress must wait hours to receive pain medication or attention. Staff was not caring. Your loved one will become more unhealthy here or possibly suffer an earlier death. Beware.

    Response: I agree! Terrible care!

Response: I agree! The people in charge do not listen to family about unique and individual personalities in the Memory Care Unit. They believe that because of their degrees, they know better than the person/spouse who has been with the person for 50 yrs. plus. They also favor some residents over others and both the resident and their families rights are ignored. My loved one's rights were constantly ignored to satisfy another confused resident. I would never recommend Bethesda Meadow Memory Unit to anyone!

Unfortunately Bethesda Meadows misses the mark of excellence by far. Choose another facility. The dietary department in the kitchen are very helpful but the management is poor. We are very disappointed with this place. As the previous reviewer stated...stay away at ALL costs! Your loved one will die an earlier death here. No respect for the residents by the managers.

Response: Not impressed at all with the care here!! Look elsewhere!

Stay away from this place at all costs. This is supposed to be a memory care facility, but with the exception of a good staff in the physical therapy department, the residents don't seem to get any social interaction. Most of the time I saw most of the residents sitting around in the main atrium on each floor or in their rooms staring at the television. The only time I see them outside is if a family member visiting and took them outside. I saw nurses ignore the distress of patients. There is a security system set up for patients who are wanderers or want to "get out", but there is nothing set up for people from the outside. I could walk right in through the front door and up to the patient floor without anyone stopping me if I wanted to. The rooms are dark and impersonal with crappy furniture in need of repair and it looked like a medical ward. The staff take a long time to return phone calls. My parent had had what was either bedsores or lack of changing the Depends product because the staff doesn't toilet often enough. Oh, not enough staff to take care of everyone's needs in a timely manner. Also, my parent's feet were in horrible condition. No one checked them - my parent had blue toes which is evidence of lack of circulation or some kind of vascular issue.
