My mother was sent there after surgery by Dr. Hux. She said the staff never came to check on her and when they brought her pills to take finally, they did not bring any water to take them. She checked out as soon as possible in the morning even though the staff tried to make her stay. I don't blame her. I can't believe they never even checked on her overnight so soon after surgery. This place is the pits.

They treat people with no respect at all the workers are under paid. I wouldn't put my worse enemy in that hell hole. The administrator don are racist unit coordinators are dumb as hell the staffing coordinator is worth 2 cents. Overall they need a whole new staff to run that building. Also with the administrator having 18 lawsuits

Response: there is not enough people there. The food sucks and th floors haven't been mopped for two weeks.

This place is a joke! Don't be fooled by the appearance of the place as it looks nice but the nursing staff is incompetent and rude! The director of nursing is condescending and has an excuse for everything... when caught in a lie documents were then falsified to attempt to cover up her lies. Medication errors happen daily. My grandmother was there following surgery and her incision got infected due to there inability to care for it. She fell on may occasions because she could not get the help she needed! Falls were not reported to family members and when confronted about this problems was lied to again! This place is a nightmare!!!!

My dad resided at Carmel Hills after a hospital stay for five months while we waited for a place to open up for him in the VA home. He started out on their 'closed unit' where I continually had to ask them for water for him to drink. At one point he had contracted an upper respiratory infection. When I visited I could tell by the dryness of his lips that he was dehydrated. He finally got the requested water after I talked with a social worker. Eventually they moved him off the closed unit but then moved him back because he exhibited aggressive behavior. They also upped his 'anxiety' mediation so that he was groggy or sleeping most times I visited him. When I queried the Social Worker about whether some of his aggressiveness might be due to rough treatment (or lack of assistance) by the staff (because it wasn't his norm to be aggressive unless pushed), the social worker dismissed it and gave other explanations. Now I wonder after seeing how much better he faired once we moved him to a new facility where the staff was seemed to be more attentive and caring. The worst incident while my dad resided at Carmel Hills, however, was the dental appointment they sent him to when he was clearly sick. They called me while I was on my way to meet him and told me 'he wasn't himself.' When I asked if they had taken his temperature before he left, they said they hadn't and suggested I have the dental staff take it when he got there! When I met him there, he was unusually disoriented and obviously not feeling well. The dentist sent him back to the nursing home without service. It turns out he had a urinary tract infection. This was just a few days before we moved him from that hell hole. At the new facility, they decreased his anxiety meds and kept him with the 'regular' population from the start. He interactive with staff and other residents; they really enjoyed him and vice versa... he was sad to leave when a place opened up for him at the VA home.

If you have family or friends that you care about, I would not recommend this facility. If you do your research you will find several wrongful death lawsuits that have been taken to court and won by families that have lost loved ones due to the negligence of this facility's administrator and its employees. If you are not white, the administrator discriminates against you. If you look at Missouri's Casenet, you will get verification of this information. The facility is deceiving, for it looks like a nice facility at first glance. If you complain, you get a nice little face to face with the administrator who tells you what she wants, while your concerns are received by deaf ears. My Grandma lived on the long term care side, we have since moved her. This place is a NIGHTMARE!!

Response: Oh by the way, the local firefighters and EMTs have named this place CARMEL KILLS!!!!!

05/02/2011  -  An OurParents User Writes:

Please beware! If you care about your family member you not allow them to reside here! Poor inattentive staff, wrongly and untimely administration of medication, facility reeks of urine and stool. Misguided administration only in the business for profit-so if your loved one is too much work then expect and eviction notice. Social worker is a joke. Please don't make the same mistake we did. It's an absolutely horrible place to be.

Please do your research. I know how hard it is to do in a crunch. I would NOT recommend this facility and I will NOT take any of my loved ones their again, My grandfather was only there for a week and it was the worst week of his and our lives. Improper medications and administration of medications, very little supervision and care, negative and hostile employees. Overall I am not sure how a place can stay in business by letting patients sit in urine and feces for several hours and refusing to help them to the restroom, not to mention the mistakes with the medication and just plain ignoring the patients needs. In the week we were their I did not see one smiling face from patients to employees. Please check it out before you use the facility.

12/31/2010  -  An OurParents User Writes:

This is a horrible place and they DO NOT take care of the people. A family member got 5 bed sores as they left them laying in feces and kept them sitting in a wheelchair all day long. DO NOT use this facility

needs lots of improvements

Response: I agree. Although I would rate them lower than a 1 star due to neglect of residents.

Response: Angry employees dont count! They give very good care at Carmel!

Response: What I mean is angry ex-employee remarks dont count. My mother is well taken care of. And I had her in 2 other local facilities.
