As a past grandchild of a resident and volunteer of Manor Grove for many years I can honestly state that this is one of the best places for the elderly on earth! Part of my heart will always ring within the halls of Manor Grove, for the care they gave my grandmother. She was so frail in her final years and the staff was so good to her. Every time I came to visit her, she was always being comforted or cared for by someone. Never, ever did I witness her ever being left alone or un-cared for. After her passing, I wanted to give back to Manor Grove for all the blessings they gave my grandmother, so Ive been a volunteer now for over 5 years. It's an insult to me and I'm sure it would be to my grandmother if she were here today, to hear of a disgruntled worker, spreading dishonest feedback to people who are really looking for a wonderful home to place their loved one. Anyone that has been in the field for 12 years and thinks Manor Grove is not the most wonderful senior care residence is not being honest. When the time comes to place my mother in a home, I wont need to look any further than what is in my heart. I challenge anyone to do their homework, research and spend some time there. Get to know the fine people that work there and you'll see why they have been a pillar to Kirkwood's elderly, for well over 100 years! As a family member of a Manor Grove resident, I feel the need to reply to the comments I read from a writer who claims to have worked at Manor Grove. I cannot imagine that she is writing about the same place that my Dad is a resident! He has been a resident at MG for 2 years, and the loving, compassionate care that he has received is far above what I had hoped for. He is treated with the utmost dignity and respect by the entire staff, from nursing to maintenance. My mother has benefitted at the same time. She has been involved with the spousal meal program and through this has made many new friends, people that share the same circumstances that she does. My father was never a social person, but I am amazed that the activity people convince him to attend the number of activities that he does. Of course it is not like being in your own home, but I truly believe Manor Grove is as close as you will come given the circumstances.

I have to share that I totally disagree with what is written by the person below. I have had my wife of 50 years at Manor Grove for the past 5 years and the staff has been loving and caring, I consider them family. I eat with my wife every day and the food is good and we do get a choice! If you ask me, these comments come from someone who did not enjoy the work they did and just wanted to make a loving, caring home look BAD. I too was there when the people from the state came, they were asking alot of families and residents what we thought and we did tell them the truth. Manor Grove is a nice place. Three are many staff members who go beyond the call of duty to take care of my wife and make me feel better, especially when I start to feel blu. There is no place like home, but I would not have my wife anyplace other than Manor Grove!

My mom is on the second floor. I would like to know how many nurses assist each resident. It seems about 50% of the time she has towels and water available. Their activities need more than 1 attendant to help get the residents excited. Most of the time the residents are sat in the hallway most of the day or in front of the bird cage. Most wanted to go to their rooms or lay down. She has complained about untimely care. They rarely get her to the bathroom on time and when they do some have hurried her or taken her off before she had time to go. Then she said they seemed angry and put off when they had to change her. Many of us will someday be in the same position. I hope and prayer we think about that when we see and talk to residents in a nursing home. Just a 2 minute conversation can make their day. Just a touch and a smile can mean so much.

Response: I have a parent at Manor Grove...we have never felt 'happy' about the choice. I would like very much to speak with you.

My mother was in here and she had (along with all) the WORST CARE ever!!! I would NEVER send anyone that I care about here. Now my mom is in an awesome place.. less money.. and the best care ever. Since she has been in this new place, I saw one of the nurses from Manor Grove (who is no longer working there) and she was so glad I got my mom out! In fact it was so bad that is why she left.

Response: I also have a family member at this facility and am very unhappy. I would be very interested in speaking with you

Response: I would really like to speak to you. My mom went in walking and talking and within several months she is bedridden and can barely lift her head. THey have no diagnosis for her condition . THe staff doctor just states that her systems are shutting down but her vitals have been stable for the past 3 months.
