My father was on the ground/basement floor. It was NOT depressing or dark. My father felt calm, and loved the relaxed feel of his surroundings. The staff including the food handlers, were very, very kind and encouraging. He spent time at another facility that was huge, shiny, loud, COLD, and after stepping into this older more relaxing atmosphere and warmer environment, he has been very happy! The therapist speak calmly, RESPECTFULLY, and non sarcastic as compared to the newer, shinier, bigger facility he was at in O'Fallon. We have nothing but NICE things to say about Mt. Carmel. Thank You!! The Neu Family

The skilled nursing area was satisfactory. Once leaving this area, and becoming a regular resident of this facility, the quality of care dropped drastically for my loved one. I would rate it at "no stars" if possible. Her care was below acceptable. Her pain management was very poor. Help with personal care was also almost non-existent. These are my observations and opinions.

My mom also stayed here for one of her skilled Nursing rehab times. She was here for only a couple of weeks-
The location the basement. The rooms dark and to small. Kinda dspressing. The place was clean, and the Nurses and rehab were very good and my mom was cared for well. No oxgen running out issues, and they had meds on time, no diabetes issues with dropping sugars, etc. So that tells me the Nurses & techs are meeting the patients needs. The thing my mom did not like- she only got bathed once a week! The other place she stayed did let her bath each night. She also did not like the small dark rooms- depressing.
