Let the buyer beware! Do not, I repeat do not send your loved one to this place! Staff asks that your loved one sleep naked!!! Call light is a total joke!! I literally stood in the hallway upon ariving to my loved ones room and noticed the call light on, so I stood back and watched the staff multiple staff multiple times pass by with the call light on and not even making an acknowledgement that help was needed. It is obvious that the staff from the highest level to the lowest level does not have an ounce of empathy. This carries over to the entire atmosphere!!!!! The food is HORRIBLE!! Beware because if you bring your issues or concerns to the nursing director, she will literally laugh in your face and make you feel like you are lying. I know this because it happened to me. If you truly love your family member or friend, do not have anything to do with Brookhaven!!! Worst experience ever and one that I would not ever want to relive.

I wouldn't put a dog in that place! Don't put your family here! Management is a joke. CNAs are confused. You never get a bath. Call light is a joke, no one comes. Poor poor service.

My mother was a this nursing home and the care was horrible. They have high staff turn-over. I mean they can't even keep a DON!! No one was ever around to answer the call light. My mom fell twice taking her self to the bathroom after she pushed her button and no one came! This place has a low rating for a reason. The administrator is a young girl that don't know the first thing about how to deal with people. please don't put your loved one here!

I want to thank the staff of BrookHaven for the wonderful care, professionalism as well as simple kindness that was shown to my loved one: In this time when so many are critical of the care provided in this type of facility, it is nice to know there are places that focus on the quality of life the individual has while in this enviornment. There were times other family members were overheard to be critical, demanding overly so of the staff and care they felt their loved one needed: Although it was clear the staff were doing all they could to meet their needs, the family were not satisfied demanding almost one on one care. However, the staff continued to provide care with kindness, willingness and professionilism. I don't know that I could have been that forthcoming in my attitude. We have been to other facilities in the area through different family members but I will always recommend that anyone in my family return to BrookHaven should the need arise. It is not only a beautiful facility but there are hardly any odors, and when there are, these are quickly eliminated; I wonder if the public is educated on the fact that when there are not odors when you enter a nursing home, it means that the ones that are residing there are being kept clean and dry?

My Brother was at Brookhaven after his stroke. My sister and I are all he has. The physical therapy he got was wonderful! We thought he would never be able to come home again, but after a couple of months he was able to go back to his house. He can feed his self, walk with a walker and take care of his self. When he left the hospital he was in a wheel chair and they were feeding him from a tube. I would recommend this home to anyone who needs therapy! The place is clean, the staff is friendly and would come right away, the therapy girls can work wonders and the food was even good (my sister and me would eat lunch with him sometimes). I would take my brother back any time and even go myself if ever I needed to.

We recently made the hurried decision to put our mom here for rehab after her hip surgery. Not having done that before my brother and I ha no idea where to start, the hospital handed us a list and said to choose one basically. We were so very lucky to have found Brookhaven! From the moment mom arrived there we were greeted with kindness, professionalism, and an incredibly beautiful facility! The nursing staff went beyond our expectations, even made her a meal although the kitchen staff were done serving for the day!
Mom's needs weren't just met, they were anticipated, and our expectations were exceeded. I didn't know there were places out there that cared so much, and treated seniors so well. Mom loved the staff there, and it was nice to trust in the care she was reviving. Although she's home now, she still tells her friends how nice of a place it is! THANK YOU BROOKHAVEN!!!!!!

    Great facility

Response: No one seems to be concerned about the 2nd hand smoke. There are individuals that have respiratory conditions. There is another fenced area that is not near any residents rooms that could be used for smokers. Their employees use that area.

02/15/2012  -  An OurParents User Writes:

Food is always cold and delivered to the room sometimes up to 45 minutes late. Smoking area for residents is next to entrance/exit allowing 2nd hand smoke to fill corridor and resident rooms. Lack of fresh air due to unwritten(?) 'rule' that windows cannot be opened slightly (1/2 to 1 inch)during cool weather. Being forced to wear full ostomy bag for over 3 and 1/2 hours, due to request to empty being acknowledged but not acted on. There is much more, feel free to be a silent shopper and see for yourself. Improvements are badly needed!

The facility is never staffed with enoug qualified personnel. Some (NOT ALL) seem to lack compassion when dealing with the patient and their family.
It's sad that the few bad individuals make the whole place seem bad. It's a shame because it could be one of the nicer places in town. But a lot would need to change before that could happen.

04/21/2011  -  An OurParents User Writes:

Brookhaven Health care is a facility with poor administration staff. Their lack of mercy and compassion for hospice patients is shameful. They will lie to the family to keep patients without caring for their circumstances and their lies come back to hurt the residents!!! Beware this place!!!
