My grandmother had Alzheimers and stayed here for almost five years. My grandfather was always a little on edge about the care that she received here. At first he would tell us that he didn't think they were feeding her very well. Within a couple months of staying here my grandfather kept a sign in book at the door. He asked all family and nurses to sign it, so that he could keep track of when she was fed and who was there. He fed her every single evening for five years. He probably missed less than 10 days during this 5 years. He was as devoted to her and anyone could be. During this time my grandmother lost weight and we all thought it was because of the Alzheimers. She eventually weighed only 75 lbs. She just passed last month. A week after her death we received the results from the autopsy. She had died of starvation. Unfortunately, during the blizzard of 2010 my grandfather was unable to make it to feed her for three days. Apparently none of the nurses were feeding her just as my grandfather had suspected.

The staff at Brookestone Village is ready to offer personalized in-home care whenever your loved one needs assistance. Providing a variety of helpful elder services, such as medication reminders, light housekeeping, and groooming assistance, in-home care professionals are available around-the-clock. You'll also find independent living, in-home care, skilled nursing, hospice and rehab services provided by this community. This community, a comprehensive independent living community, allows you to do as you wish, when you wish, but without the burdens of home ownership that can tie you down and take up your time. Serving both individuals and couples, these senior communities are also known as senior apartments, retirement villages, and communities for 55 and older. Residents stay in private apartments or individual homes with a variety of community amenities, services, and programs tailored specifically for seniors. Your personal belongings, such as furniture and favorite mementos, can move to your new home with you. With maintenance, groundskeeping, and housekeeping taken care of, seniors can focus on goals and passions instead of the daily demands of home ownership. Because independent living communities are intended for older adults who need little or no assistance, most do not offer medical care or supervision. Community services and amenities usually include fitness clubs, dining facilities, swimming pools, golf courses, hiking trails, social events, and more. Some seniors, as they age and begin to need assistance, simply do not wish to leave the place they’ve called home for many years. Sometimes they bought their dream home upon retirement. Sometimes it is the house where they raised their children and watched their families grow up. For them, the walls and floors resonate with memories. A caring, in-home staff understands this and is dedicated to making seniors as comfortable and as satisfied as they can possibly be. Services are available twenty-four-hours a day, seven days a week. Home care includes various medical and non-medical support services. For many seniors, home care allows them to stay independent for as long as possible. With independent living, you can do as you wish, when you wish, but without the burdens of home ownership that can take up your time. In-home care is an option for seniors when they need it. Care professionals will bring their expertise and experience to your home. This choice is perfect for those who would like to stay in their homes but who need some help with the daily activities of living. These services, available 24 hours a day, every day, are paid for by the individual or through public and private funding sources, such as Medicare and/or Medicaid.
