My Uncle has been at The Wanaque Center for a while and the care is so great. This is my uncles 2nd facility and this facility is the best. The nurses and aids are always ready to help, the other residents are all happy, they even invite the families to events and holiday meals, and its nice to see that they take my uncle and his roommate on their new outdoor patio area that has bright, colorful plants, and new canopy. I recommend this facility to anyone who needs to place their loved one.

The Facility is poorly kept and very dirty. It is noisy with alarms, bells, and patients screaming constantly. The food is horrible and patient care is terrible.

My brother was at The Wanaque Center recently. He was there for therapy. The Therapy department is wonderful, they were patient with him and they also have the family very involved with his treatment. I definitely recommend.

I wouldn't let my dog stay here. The facility is filthy. The nurses are all sitting around texting on their cell phones. The food is disgusting and cold when served. There are a lot of incidents of people being dropped by CNAs. One of the residents fell down the back steps while still in his wheel chair head first. They didnt find him for two hours. Medication is given to the wrong residents. The residents have to beg to go outside. It's like a prison. There is frequent theft in the building of residents belongings. Don't put your loved ones here.

My mother was at The Wanaque Center for 2 months while she needed specialized care. The staff were so compassionate and caring during that time, going above and beyond to make sure she was comfortable and happy. The activities room was always fun and vibrant. The other residents were always smiling and having fun in there. They offer trips which my mother loved and while she was there she went to the movies, Walmart, and even a baseball game. The food was good, the building was clean, and my mother was happy. An amazing facility!

The care at the center is incredible. All staff are caring, compassionate and patient. The FOOD, however, is abismal....reminiscent of army rations at times!!! Even a cheese sandwich was comprised of stale bread and 1 slice of cheese!!!

Staff couldn't be more attentive! Kind, caring...even to those bedridden. Food very good. The facility is a bit run down, but renovations/upgrades are planned. Most residents very disabled.

Poor communication between nursing staff. Medication not given as scheduled. Patients not exercised. They make excuses for, rather than address the concerns of the responsible party for problems that arise with a patient. They are the experts and know more about your loved one than you do. Control diet with the priority put on ability of aide to feed patient rather than patients ability to eat or quality and enjoyment of food.

Response: This was my review and I wanted to elaborate.

My wife has Parkinsin's desease and dementia . She lost 10lbs. (6.5% of her body weight) within the first two weeks of admission. She was put on an subsequently taken off an anti depressant. Put on a pureed diet with no improvement. I told the nurses to adjust the timing of her medication so she could physically be able to eat and it worked. I prepare and feed her regular food several times a week, but the facility keeps her on pureed food which she will eat only reluctantly. She also developed an open sore on her buttocks within one month of admission. She was able to walk with assistance when admitted but is kept in bed 20-21 hrs. a day and now can barely walk. I helped her to the bathroom to urinate on 6/17/2010 and the two aides said they didn't even know she could walk and was on a diaper change schedule. When her freshly changed disper was removed there was partially dried feces between her buttocks. I am now searching for another facility for her after less than two months.

I would strongly recommend avoiding The Wanaque Center.
